Description of University of Sussex Summer Camp

  • Location: East Sussex, England
  • Age of students: 12-17 years
  • Total number of children in the camp: 184
  • Language of instruction: English.

University of Sussex Summer Camp is a European english language centre for children. The institution was founded in 1982 on the basis of the University of Sussex. The location of the camp contributes to its demand - about an hour drive to London, 30 minutes from one of the international airports in the UK, 5.4 km. from the railway station.

About 27,500 students from 50 countries participate in the education. They provide a safe and interesting pastime, organizing sports, scientific, creative events. When visiting the camp, students will also see many attractions, will be able to visit the main places of London.

At the University of Sussex Summer Camp, children under the age of 12 are accepted, provided that the group leaders take full responsibility for them throughout the program. There are 10 children per adult if there are those under the age of 12.

Classic Programme

Students are tested for knowledge of the English language and are trained in groups with equal levels. English is taught 15 hours a week, textbooks are included in the price.

In addition to studying, the two-week program includes:

  • 1 full-day excursion to London
  • 1 full-day excursion to Portsmouth
  • 5 half-day excursions to Brighton.

The three-week program additionally provides a full-day excursion to Cambridge.

Premium Programme

The premium program includes all the conditions of the standard: 15 hours per week for English lessons, tests and exams, entertainment programs. The two-week version includes:

  • 2 full-day excursions to London
  • 1 excursion to Portsmouth
  • 1 excursion to Oxford
  • 1 excursion to Arundel
  • 5 half-day excursions to Brighton.

Accommodation, meals, prices

Three dormitories provide:

  • Fully furnished single rooms / Rooms with bathrooms, toilets
  • Kitchens with appliances in each apartment
  • Bed linen, towels with weekly change
  • Weekly cleaning of rooms
  • Free Wi-Fi throughout the campus.

On-site services available to students and group leaders:

  • Laundry
  • Irons, ironing boards.

The residential campus is accessible to students with disabilities, three rooms are prepared for them - one on the first floor of each building.

Host families are a 35-minute drive away: students are accommodated in single, double rooms and provided with tickets for 7 days.

The Campus Restaurant provides a full meal, taking into place special dietary needs if necessary. Students can visit local shops, such as the Co-op at Bramber House, to purchase drinks, sweets, snacks.

Activities University of Sussex Summer Camp

Activities at the University of Sussex Summer Camp are made for the entire stay:

  • Premium for 2-3 weeks
  • Classic version for 2-3 weeks.

The schedule includes:

  • General education lessons
  • Hiking tours to attractions
  • Audio Tours
  • Parties, karaoke
  • Screenings
  • Music concerts
  • Dance classes with professional choreographers
  • Sports games: volleyball, basketball, badminton, table tennis, etc.

In the Sound Downs National Park, art, music festivals, horse racing are held.

The main cities to visit included in the programs:

  • London: bus tours, museums, river cruise, etc.
  • Brighton: observation decks, palaces and pavilions, the center of marine life, etc.
  • Portsmouth:

Children living under the "Premium" program additionally visit Arundel and Oxford.

Facilities and equipment at University of Sussex Summer Camp

University of Sussex Summer Camp is located on the south coast of England, the buildings of the summer school are located on the waterfront. The three buildings of the institution, built in the style of George V, are among the most beautiful houses of the Regency era.

Summer camp offers many attractions, for example:

  • Amusement park.

University of Sussex Summer Camp is ideally located for visiting London, Oxford, Cambridge.

In addition to residential buildings on campus are located:

  • Medical centers.

The team provides private transfers from airports, railway stations. All students are given public transport tickets to visit Brighton.

Students stay in the camp for 2-3 weeks depending on the chosen program. Awakening in the camp takes place at 8:00 and lasts until 22:00.

Additional costs will include:

  • Washer, dryer – 1-3£
  • Extra meals – £8 per serving
  • Trinity exam – £130 for a group of 15 people
  • Supplement for extra nights – 45-55£
  • Private tuition – from £70 per hour
  • Tickets in museums, galleries, buses, etc. – from £ 50 per group.

Transfers are paid separately, the amount is calculated for 4, 7, 16, 29, 49 people.
