The University of Divinity was founded in 1910 as the Melnburg College of Divinity on the basis of an act of the Victorian Parliament. The first issue came in 1913. In 2011, the educational institution was awarded the status of higher, which means the possibility of assigning bachelor, master and doctoral degrees.

The educational institution regularly receives awards in the field of theology, philosophy, and service. In 2001, the University of Divinity first received federal research funding. The University of Divinity is Australia's only special education institution that is listed on the TESQA National Register of Higher Education Providers.

Most programs are credited after filling out an online application on the University of Divinity website and providing the necessary package of documents:
