Shanghai ranking: criteria, features
Chinese universities evaluated 500 universities. The ranking includes 151 American educational institutions, 39 German universities, 35 Chinese universities, 37 British and 2 Russian. The ranking was made on the basis of the following criteria:
- the size of the campus
- the citation of researchers
- the number of scientific publications
- the number of graduates who have received a Nobel Prize, etc.
The academic community criticized the Shanghai ranking. They, expressed dissatisfaction with the fact that universities were assessed only on the indicators of research activities, prizes and the size of educational institutions. France is losing to Britain and the USA mainly on the latter level. Universities of the country are too "small" in comparison with British and American giants. French universities in the ranking take 40 - 70 positions.
