The Economist recently presented an updated annual Worldwide Cost of Living Report, which estimates the cost of living in different parts of the world. The ranking shows which cities are considered the most expensive to live in and which are the most affordable. Who opens both ends of the list?
The Most Expensive Cities
The survey covered 173 metropolitan areas around the world, where researchers compared prices for a wide range of goods and services — in each city, participants checked more than 400 price tags for 200 different items. The study was conducted from mid-August to early September. Singapore, which has been at the top of the rankings for nine of the last eleven years, is tied for first place with Zurich in 2023. You can also find Geneva, New York, Hong Kong, Los Angeles, Paris, Copenhagen, Tel Aviv and San Francisco.
The Most Affordable Cities
At the other end of the list was Damascus in Syria, along with Tehran and Tripoli, which also showed a low cost of living.
