Description of Sutton Valence School

  • Founded: in 1576
  • Location: Kent, United Kingdom
  • Age of students: 3-18 years
  • Total number of students: 790 people (35 foreigners, about 5%)
  • Type of program: joint (mixed)
  • Type of accommodation: residence (full board) from 9 years old
  • Language of instruction: English.

Traditional, classical Sutton Valence School (Private School Sutton Valence School) is a prestigious boarding school of joint type. Today, about 800 students study here, the overwhelming majority being British: foreigners make up no more than 5% of the total number of students.

The school was founded in 1576 (which makes it one of the oldest schools in the United Kingdom) and, traditionally for the UK, initially accepted only boys for boys whose families lived next door. The large-scale reorganization and modernization began in 1912, and by 1919 the school had completely switched to a joint system, having built two residences for girls only.

Sutton Valence School enjoys an excellent reputation and respect for colleagues from all over the world. It is part of the prestigious organizations and associations: The Independent Association of Prep Schools (IAPS), The Headmasters 'and Headmistresses' Conference (HMC) and others.

At the same time, they try to provide quality and comprehensive academic education, and develop children in other areas - sports, creative, moral, ethical, psychological, and communicative. Small classes and professionalism of teachers give an opportunity to pay personal attention to everyone, which positively affects the results demonstrated by the students:

  • 2016: GCSE - 91% of students passed final exams for scores from C to A * (highest grade)
  • 2016: A-level 67% of students managed to pass to high marks in VA *.

An additional advantage is the balance of the curriculum: it follows the traditional British approach, tested by centuries, but also closely follows the latest pedagogical developments, methods and teaching aids. In addition, students have the opportunity to develop in the Joint Cadet Corps (Air Force) or pass a specialized education in the Navy, learn shooting and improve their own physical form, strength, endurance.
