Description of St. Edmund's School Canterbury Private Boarding School

As the name suggests, the St. Edmund's School Canterbury is located in Canterbury, Kent, on its picturesque expanses and picturesque hills, which offer a beautiful view of the whole city. The journey to London takes about an hour, as well as to the main urban international airports (a regular high-speed train runs).

Canterbury is known for its rich history, architecture and slow, measured rhythm of life. It is here that the legendary majestic Canterbury Cathedral, the main Anglican temple of the whole United Kingdom, as well as the famous Canterbury University, popular with both the British and foreign citizens, is located here.

St. Edmund's School Canterbury is a private boarding school (there is also a full-time course) for boys and girls from 3 to 18 years old. It was founded more than 100 years ago, and today the total area reaches 25 hectares with a good infrastructure:

  • The old main building and studying blocks;
  • Comfortable residences;
  • Sports infrastructure (fields and playgrounds, tennis courts and a swimming pool).
  • Own theater;
  • A large spacious sports hall;
  • Lounge zone;
  • Functional scientific laboratories;
  • Well-equipped music school.

The institution includes three educational levels:

  • Preparatory classes (3-7 years);
  • Junior classes (7-13 years);
  • Middle classes (13-18 years old, includes the Sixth Form, or graduation classes).

All branches work according to common goals and  Christian values. Here they strive to provide students with comprehensive opportunities for self-realization, to give everyone a chance to prove themselves, to develop their talents and abilities. In the students valuable social qualities and high morals are brought up, personal talents and inclinations develop. Such an approach yields its results: the results of final examinations, the high scores on various tests, the high percentage of students successfully enrolled in the chosen university, are particularly bright.

The best option to enter education are in the kindergarten, 3,7,9,12 classes - the rest options can only join if there are vacant places, which is updated on an individual basis.

UK boarding school rankings: what criteria are used to compile them? How much can they be trusted?

Rankings consider GCSE and A Level / IB results, whilst a strong indicator of academic output, I advise parents to also look at the schools ethos and community values when assessing the right school for their child.

For junior students (8-13 years), a residence is prepared in the heart of the campus - School House. Their peers are working as singers in the Canterbury Cathedral and studying at school, occupying the neighboring building of Choir House. For students from 13 to 18, there are two residences - Owen and Gorsefield: there are cozy common recreation rooms where students like to chat with friends, to help each other with studies or playing board games.

Boys and girls live separately. The rooms consist of comfortable bedrooms: there are options for 4-6 people, for 2-4 (each has a separate bathroom and toilet), as well as 1-2-bedroom for high school students. Food is organized on the full board basis, the diet is varied and balanced, fully meets the needs of the body of children and adolescents.
