Summer holidays in different countries: how do schoolchildren in the UAE, USA, Switzerland and other countries rest?

Summer holidays in different countries: how do schoolchildren in the UAE, USA, Switzerland and other countries rest?

Switzerland

Switzerland is a country of 26 cantons, each of which can be considered as a small separate country. In this regard, cultural differences and customs lead to a variety of summer vacation schedules in each canton. Public and private schools have different schedules, but in general, the duration of the summer holidays is usually about two months.

Unlike in some countries, Swiss parents usually do not take time off during their children's summer holidays. There is no habit of taking the child to relatives, so the cantons and local communities organize camps: this is a cost-effective option that requires minimal costs. For two weeks, children learn to enjoy nature and mountain life in these camps.

Poland

Poland has its own unique features in the organization of summer holidays. Summer vacation for children in Poland lasts in July and August. This period is difficult for parents, as at other times of the year the holidays in different regions of Poland do not coincide: this allows parents to plan their own holidays more efficiently, avoid traffic congestion and reduce the influx in tourist places.

During the holidays, most children in Poland stay at home. Instead of enlisting the help of grandparents, many families choose to spend a two-week vacation domestically.

United Arab Emirates

In Abu Dhabi, regardless of the type of school, all educational institutions are regulated by the Department of Education, that is, all holidays, including summer holidays, take place at the same time. Usually, the school year ends in the first weeks of July and begins at the end of August, although the exact dates may vary slightly from year to year.

About 80% of the emirate's population are foreigners, so most of the residents want to spend the summer in their home countries to escape the hot summer weather. For those who stay, there are many opportunities for vacations, although many of them require additional costs (and quite substantial). In the city you can find camps for every taste, but they often work only until noon (and this does not particularly affect the price tag).

Georgia

In Georgia, summer holidays for younger schoolchildren begin on June 1 and last until mid-September, for high school they begin in mid-June and end on September 15. The country has a wide range of urban and suburban camps with a variety of themes, including sports and art. For foreign students, camps are also organized with teaching in English.

For example, a summer camp can be organized in a hotel in the mountains or on the coast, where children spend most of their time outdoors under the guidance of instructors and teachers.

Canada

In Canada, holidays begin at the end of June and last until the beginning of September. For children, this time provides many opportunities for outdoor activities. One of the most popular vacation options are camps offering a variety of activities. Enrolment in camps usually begins in advance, often as early as January, so that parents can secure a place for their children.

In the coastal cities of Canada, educational tours are popular, including whale and dolphin watching. The camps are usually organized in scenic spots near the lakes and offer a variety of activities such as archery, theatrical performances, and swimming.

Meals in the camps include popular dishes such as nuggets and burgers, but attention is also paid to a healthy diet that includes vegetables and other healthy components.

Netherlands

In the Netherlands, summer holidays usually last a month and a half, the exact start dates of the holidays may vary slightly depending on the region and year.

Many families use this time to spend their holidays together: when they go on a trip, they can enjoy family adventures. Another common practice is to plan vacations with grandparents, which provides an opportunity for children to enjoy time with close relatives.

United States

In the States, there is no single schedule of school holidays, it can vary depending on the state or even a particular school. However, summer holidays usually begin in early or mid-June and continue until the end of August.

Schools and the state do not organize summer activities for schoolchildren, but many private camps offer various activities for children (however, the cost of participation in them can be wow). Many families, especially those with multiple children, choose to spend time at home, as many mothers may work part-time or not at all to take care of the children.

Taiwan

In Taiwan, summer vacations usually last about two months. Taiwanese culture is different from Western countries, and sending children to grandparents for vacations is not a widespread practice.

Instead, children often attend additional classes: these can be math, Chinese or English lessons. These classes are similar to additional lessons, electives that children attend during the school year after school.

For families who can afford it, a popular option would be to travel around the island. Taiwan is famous for its beautiful scenery and rich culture, making it an attractive destination for leisure and travel.

Spain

In Spain, in particular in Madrid, the summer holidays usually begin at the end of June and last until the beginning of September. Many schools in Spain organize paid themed camps for children during the summer holidays (although they are usually a bit expensive). Public schools can also offer camps, but generally they are also paid, with the cost not much different from private camps.

In Spain, families often use a variety of ways to organize their children's summer holidays: sending children to camps, hiring grandparents to help care for children at home, or hiring a babysitter.
