The State University of New York state at Geneseo, founded in 1871, is a leading public liberal arts college.   • The $53 million SUNY Geneseo Integrated Science Center includes the only Pelletron particle accelerator in Western New York City. According to the American Institute of Physics, the college is among the nation's top producers of bachelor's degrees in physics.
  • Michael Kleinlercher '22 and Jarrett Marrapese '23 will spend the 2022–23 academic year in Japan after receiving awards at national competitions. Kleinlercher, a dual major in history and international relations from Carmel, New York, will spend a year in northern Japan as a language assistant as part of the Japan Exchange and Study Program USA. Marrapese, a specialist in international relations and psychology from Honeoya, New York, has won two national competitive awards – the Freeman-ASIA Scholarship and the Benjamin A. Gilman International Fellowship – for studying abroad at Rikkio University in Japan.
  • Queenie Adams (22), Lily Devlin (23) and Isabella Prince (23) will study abroad in Ghana this summer after winning the Benjamin A. Gilman International Fellowship during the 2022-2023 National Competition.

  • The Faculty Senate of the State University of New York (SUNY) presented suny Geneseo with the Co-Governance Award for the 2021–2022 academic year.

The school integrates classroom and out-of-classroom learning through live learning communities (LLCs). Three different types of LLCs are available to students.

  • Inquiry and Discovery LLC are committed to helping students transition to Geneseo and succeed by making connections on campus and participating in the Genesee Valley community. Students acquire skills and knowledge in leadership, mentoring, and action through community engagement.
  • Exploratory LLCs contribute to students' sense of belonging and community building through shared interests. The program and activities are organized by Residence Life staff, faculty, staff and community members, as well as residents themselves!
  • Cohort LLCs are stationary activities that support student success through targeted development, academic success, and opportunities for personal growth. These include communities of freshmen, high school students, and foreigners.

  • New Pilot LLC: First Knight Experience is a community of freshmen who have not yet chosen a specialty.

Facilities and equipment at State University of New York at Geneseo, SUNY Geneseo

  • The campus is home to sports facilities at Merritt Fieldhouse and Schrader Hall.
  • The Merritt Sports Center houses the Ira S. Wilson Ice Arena, the Louise Kuhl Gymnasium, a swimming pool for graduates, a fitness center, and squash courts.
  • The Karl Schroeder Gymnasium on the SUNY Geneseo campus is home to the women's volleyball, men's and women's basketball teams. The gym opened for competition in the fall of 2006 and seats 1,000 spectators. In addition, the complex has four playgrounds for playing racquetball, classes and a gym for student-athletes.
  • The Luisa Kul Gymnasium is a place for relaxation and special Geneseo events. The facility, with three full-size basketball courts and a capacity of 3,000 people, was renovated in 2020. He regularly hosted volleyball and basketball championships, all entertainment events.
  • In 2019, Geneseo opened a cinema hall for athletics. The hall has stands for 42 people, as well as a massive 80-inch smart TV. Located on the ground floor of the Schrader Athletic Building, the room will be a place for teams to meet and conduct video reviews.

Entry requirements, how to apply, what is required to enrol

Up-to-date official transcripts from all the high schools you attended, translated into English, are required. After the end of the last year of study - the final transcript.

Applicants provide any official results of external examinations: regional, national or international. Examples: X and XII Standards, IGCSE, WASSCE, CXC, Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate, etc.

Foreign applicants do not need to complete any additional applications for scholarship consideration, but need to submit a full application for admission and provide academic documents.

Academic scholarships can be extended for up to four years with an average score of 3.0 or higher. International applicants admitted to SUNY Geneseo are automatically considered for an international student scholarship.

Scholarship options for international students:

  • International Student Scholarship for Academic Merit – These scholarships range from $5,000 to $9,000 and are awarded upon admission. The awards are based on outstanding academic achievements, as evidenced by grades in transcripts and the results of national examinations.
  • The Ambassador Apartments World Citizen Scholarships for International Students are two awards that best demonstrate awareness and understanding of what it means to be a citizen of the world. The recipients are chosen by the Director of the Office for Work with International Students and Scientists, the Committee on International Scholarships.
  • VanArsdale Scholarships – One award is given annually to support an international student demonstrating academic success at Geneseo. The recipient is selected by the Director of International Student and Scholar Services and the International Scholarship Committee.
  • The Muriel A. Daniel International Fellowship is supported by a donation established by Robert and Marilyn Lyon in honor of Marilyn's mother, Muriel. The award is given to suny Geneseo, an outstanding international student, with preference given to a Canadian student with a good academic record (minimum 3.0 GPA) who demonstrates leadership, respect, loyalty and honesty.
