The date of foundation of the St. Petersburg State Agrarian University is September 8 , 1904. On this day, the Stebutov Higher Women's Agricultural Courses were opened for the first time in Russia, named after the famous scientist agronomist, Professor I.A. Stebut, who is their founder.
The powers of the founder of SPbSAU are exercised by the Ministry of Agriculture of Russia. The University admits applicants, including under contracts for targeted education.
Educational process
The University forms a schedule of education sessions in accordance with the curriculum and calendar educational schedule. The schedule of classes is drawn up for the semester.
For all types of classroom sessions, the academic hour is 45 minutes, one lesson includes, as a rule, two academic hours, a break of at least ten minutes. Classes start at 9.00 a.m. and end no later than 10:00 p.m. The total time of the end of classes is established on the basis of the length of the working day, taking into account the break for rest and meals, the schedule of the educational process.

In 2021, scientific research was conducted on 21 topics within 8 branches of science in close cooperation with specialized scientific institutions of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, leading domestic and foreign educational organizations of higher education, large enterprises and business representatives.
All the results of scientific research of SPbSAU employees are used in educational activities.
In 2021, for the first time, the annual Contest of Research and Design Works "Agro-Start" was held at SPbSAU in the following nominations:

SPbSAU is the founder of the journal "Izvestiya of St. Petersburg State Agrarian University" since 2004.

The university has 1432 hectares of land on the right of permanent (indefinite) use, including 1305 hectares of agricultural land. On the land plots there are 10 educational buildings, 11 dormitories, administrative and economic buildings, outbuildings, there is a motor vehicle fleet.
At all faculties, taking into account their specifics, special classrooms have been created, equipped with the necessary educational equipment, equipment for laboratory and practical classes. All faculties are 100% provided with an auditorium fund.
