The curriculum at this stage is based on the general plan adopted for Britain and Wales, but it has a number of features for use in international schools. One of its main goals is to help students to prepare for the IB program. Every year all courses of subjects end with exams (except art and drama - exams are not provided for them). The general list of items is as follows:

  • Technology and design
  • Natural sciences
  • Arabic language
  • English
  • Art (without examination)
  • Physical culture
  • ICTs
  • History
  • Mathematics
  • The second foreign language (this can be a student's choice of Chinese, German, Spanish or French)
  • Drama (without exam)
  • Geography
  • Music.

Before enrolling in the program, each student passes an introductory test. If it turns out that the level of English is not enough to fully absorb the curriculum, the student will be offered a supporting course for foreign students EAL. From the 7th to the 9th grade this course is included in the general school schedule, in the 10th and 11th grades it can replace the studying of the second foreign language, and 12-13 grades are intended for schoolchildren who plan to enter the universities of Britain.

There is also a special transitional program designed for pupils of 7-9 grade with insufficiently high language level. The essence of the course is a comprehensive study of the language along with a limited range of other disciplines (including mathematics and natural sciences) - and as soon as the language level becomes sufficient, the students join the general course of high school.

  • Physics
  • English
  • Chemistry
  • Mathematics
  • Biology
  • Modern foreign language (Spanish, French, German, Chinese, Arabic - according to the choice of the student).

Each student determines for himself at least 4 electives, focusing on their own interests and academic needs:

  • Business fundamentals
  • Music
  • Art and design
  • History
  • Physical education (optional)
  • Drama
  • Economy

12-13 grades ( Sixth Form)

Senior students can choose the most suitable educational program for themselves:

  • international IB Diploma;
  • Certificate of the Repton Diploma school (each of them is designed for 2 years).

In order to successfully pass the exams and get IB Diploma, the student must choose one subject from each academic block - note that not all combinations are available. Also, the school tracks the popularity of a particular subject - if the discipline is not in demand among students, its course is not taught. In addition to the choice of subjects, the student must decide which three he will study at the standard level, and which ones - on the in-depth level. List of academic blocks is the following:

  • English Language and Literature, English Literature (separately);
  • Foreign language: Arabic, Spanish, German, French (each course is divided into two sections - for already experienced students and learning from scratch);
  • Information technology in a global society, economics, geography, history, business and management, psychology, society and the environment;
  • Sports and health, society and the environment, chemistry, physical education, biology, physics, design and technology;
  • Mathematics, mathematical research;
  • Visual arts, theater and drama, music + 1 subject from group 3 or 4.

In addition, students attend the theory of knowledge (CTC) courses, practice in writing an expanded essay and pass the CAS course (creativity, activity, service) - these are the disciplines common to IB Diploma programs around the world.
To get a Repton certificate Diploma, the student passes the BTEC program and 2-3 courses from the classical IB program (without a diploma). The corporate certificate of this school is perfect for students who plan to enter vocational schools and receive relevant specialties: this course was developed in August 2012 as a way to obtain valuable qualifications for admission to British and European universities. Today in Repton Dubai you can get BTEC in the hotel business (this is the equivalent of two A-level exams).

A-level is a two-year course, the "gold standard" of British education. Therefore, it is not surprising that the Repton school in Dubai offers it to its high school students, because it works according to the classical, traditional British model of education.

The A-level course allows you to deeply study the selected academic subjects, to complete the final qualification project (Extended Project Qualification, EPQ). Additionally, there is the opportunity to study the theory of knowledge (THEK) - this is a useful bonus, as this is usually only offered to students on the IB. At the end of the training, students are waiting for complex exams in the selected areas, but the received certificate is valued incredibly highly all over the world.

Accommodation, meals, prices

In the spacious residences of the Repton School, young men can live (in the hostel directly on the territory), and girls (for them two spacious villas are located near the building). In the men's rooms there are equipped bathrooms, all the necessary equipment and furniture: high school students can claim a separate room, students from 7 to 11 class live by twos. The residence for girls was the first female hostel in the Middle East: cozy rooms with bathrooms (high school students live in twos, junior students with several neighbors). Each residence offers Wi-Fi (not available from 11 pm to 6 am), as well as a kitchen, a living room and a prayer room for general use.

International students receive a full, varied and delicious food on the basis of a full board: in the general dining room, young men always eat, girls can have dinner either here or in the territory of their boarding house. All meals are prepared in the school, in own kitchen - so it's easier to control the quality of the ingredients and the preparations, the freshness and taste of the products. Currently, the dishes are prepared with less salt; nuts and glutamate sodium are not used. It is possible to organize a special dietary or vegetarian diet. In addition, each residence has a fully equipped kitchen, where students can prepare for themselves simple meals or snacks: there is always milk, bread, fruit and cereals.

Each residence is managed by a senior educator, special assistants tutors, the head of the household are also working, in addition, some teachers regularly live in residences, and there is also regular staff. You can be sure that the safety of children is guaranteed around the clock.

The nurse also is on duty around the clock: Repton School has its own medical center, where a physiotherapist and a psychologist work, pediatrician reception conducts regular. In case of an acute need, the child is promptly transported to a hospital nearby and the staff  immediately reports to the parents or guardians.

Advantages

Repton community

From a starting point of 500 students in September 2008, Repton has now grown to over 1700 with over 1000 students in junior school complemented by 700 students in Senior school and IB.

Repton quickly established itself as one of the leading schools in the GCC; in July 2020 the average IB points per DP student achieved was 36, well above the global average of 29 points and the equivalent of AAAA at A level.  These outstanding results secure successful applications to the world’s leading universities and recent alumni are now studying in Oxford University, University College London and Kings College London and the University of California.

Academics

Our pupils follow an academic programme based on the British National Curriculum from Early Years to Year 11, (FS1 to Grade 10) studying a broad range of International GCSEs, examined at age 16 in Year 11, accredited by the Cambridge and London University Exam Boards.

Thereafter, students study for the prestigious International Baccalaureate qualification, post 16, following either the Diploma or Careers programmes. The latter qualification is available through a BTEC qualification for both Business and Sport. At the senior school, the academic programme is organized into three terms. In Years 7-9 (Grades 6-8), pupils are taught core subjects (Maths, English, Science) in ability groups and non-core subjects in mixed ability groups.

At the end of Year 9 (Grade 8), students choose their IGCSE options and follow these over a two-year period. At the end of Year 11, pupils are awarded their IGCSE certificates and those achieving a minimum of 6 passes at grade 6 are invited to join the sixth form to follow the IB Diploma Programme. For students opting to follow the IB Career-related Programme, a minimum of 5 passes at grade 5 or better are required.

The International Baccalaureate is intellectually rigorous, demanding that pupils not only attain high academic standards but also that students fully participate in out of class activities through the Creativity Activity Service (CAS) aspect of the Diploma. In addition, students study a course in the Theory of Knowledge [TOK] and complete a 4000 word Extended Essay. Through these courses, pupils develop the knowledge of how to learn and positively challenge their perspectives of the world from a variety of differing viewpoints.

Repton Teachers

All Repton teachers are highly trained professionals who care to further their own learning. The Headmaster regularly poses ‘What are you reading?’ and the culture of erudition within this outstanding school is perceptible. Repton teachers are skilled within their own subject discipline; students in Year 3 and Year 4 enjoy some specific, specialist-lead classes and those in Year 5+ benefit from specialist teaching across all disciplines. By the time that the rigorous International Baccalaureate is reached in Year 12 and Year 13, teachers are skilled in exploring the necessary demands at the highest level of their subjects.

Technology and Innovation

The ability to use technology appropriately is a core skill all students need, in order to be successful in their later lives. At Repton Dubai all students have the opportunity to work with a wide variety of technology both as consumers and as creators. Classrooms are equipped with interactive whiteboards and as we move towards becoming an Apple Distinguished School, the number of iPads available for students to use is increasing. In computing, our recently refurbished Mac suite has ensured that students are using innovative technology to aid their work, while in Design Technology the use of 3D printing to produce projects has developed many new skills.

However, it is not just in the traditional subjects where the use of new technologies is encouraged; students in Drama regularly film and edit scenes using handheld devices and data is collected in Science and sent by Wi-Fi directly to a computer. Innovation is both a process and a mindset. To support the UAE National Agenda and our students’ development, at Repton we are developing the next generation of innovators. Teachers achieve this goal by acting as role models and being innovative in their teaching methods. Students are given the opportunity to innovate, during lessons and in regular competitions both in and outside of school. Nothing stands still at Repton; we are preparing our students for an ever changing world where the ability to innovate and think creatively will be paramount.

Entry requirements, how to apply, what is required to enrol

To enter the school, you will need to do the following:

  • Complete the registration form
  • Provide a copy of the passport or birth certificate
  • Submit a school report indicating the year of study (Most recent data)
  • To pay registration fee (non-refundable) = 500 AED.

High school students also must pass some mandatory tests:

  • Assessment of cognitive abilities (computer test CAT, commission fee = 1000 AED)
  • Give results no less than 6 IGCSE exams or equivalents - not less than B
  • In some cases, take the CAT test.

Please note that Repton School prefers that the child has the results for the IGCSE exams specifically for those subjects that he/she will continue to study. It is also worth noting that in physics and higher mathematics, as a rule, higher marks are required.

Alison believes that ESL support is very important for schools where the majority of students who join do not have English as their mother tongue language. ESL is important especially for the children who come into the bilingual class, as the likelihood is that they will not speak English, and have French and German as their first language.
