Nordkette cable car in Austria

Austria - is a picturesque country with beautiful alpine mountains, river valleys, and other attractions: While in Innsbruck, explore them and take advantage of the cable car, which lifts three levels. The elevator was reconstructed by Iraqi architect Zaha Hadid and now looks like a futuristic type of lift pod. Nordkette will introduce tourists to a special Austrian atmosphere, unique views and unique mountain routes: those who wish can go down on foot or by bike, but remember that in rainy weather the routes are quite steep and slippery.

The Funicular

The Nordkette cable car is located in the congress center of the city, and it is quite easy to find. There are three stations: you can get to the first or second station and return, you can rest at the intermediate station and climb to the top. The stations differ in their characteristics:

  • Hangerburg is located only 300 meters above the city, but offers an indescribable view of it and the surrounding area. The main advantage of the station is that in cloudy weather you can still see the beauty from the observation deck: the clouds rarely descend. It's a popular spot for photographers.
  • "Sigrube" is 1,900 meters high. In cloudless weather here you can see not only Innsbruck, but also other objects: the valleys of the Intal and Wittal, the Stubai glacier, the mountain peaks of the Zillertal region.
  • "Hafelekar" is the highest point of the elevator, the height of 2334 meters. Tourists will have an indescribable view of the Carwendel Alps with Grossglockner Peak: they create a perfect contrast with the populated Intal Valley.

At each station there are not only viewing platforms, but also cozy cafes: have a cup of Austrian coffee while admiring the surrounding view. Do not forget that the second and third stations are cold even in the middle of summer - take warm clothes: a sweater, jacket. At the top station "Hafelekar" are open ropeways connecting the 7 peaks: intend to go on them, rent equipment at the station "Seegrube".

The elevator is open every day from 8:30 to 16:00. Ticket prices depend on the destination station: 9 €, 28 € and 31.1 € respectively - the price includes the ascent and descent by cable car.
