Lyceum No. 5 was founded in 1969. Since 2005, this educational institution has been included in the list of the best schools in Russia, since 2006 it has been the owner of a grant from the President of the Russian Federation, since 2017 - a regional studying ground for teachers of the Kursk region.

The duration of the school week is:
- Five days for students in grades 1-4
- Six days for students in grades 5-11.

A five-day camp for students (boys) in grade 10 runs from May 18 to May 22.
