The unique institution of higher education, located in Liverpool, was founded in 1898 and was the first in the world to engage in research in the field of tropical medicine. The Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine has the right to award PhD, MSc and PhD degrees.
The discovery of the LSTM was due to the fact that in the 19th century Liverpool was a port city through which England conducted trade with African countries, which is why the number of patients with specific tropical diseases was much higher than in other English cities. Initially, the Royal South Liverpool Hospital became the base for the scientific center, soon a special building was built with the support of the Colonial Office, and soon the institution was recognized as the British Foreign Office.
Numerous donations from philanthropists quickly led the educational institution to prosperity. The first dean was Ronald Ross, the first English Nobel to win a medical prize for his research on the mechanisms of malaria infection. In 1909, the school received a large laboratory and a new educational building, in 1921 the first laboratory was opened abroad, in Sierra Leone, by 1941 there were already more than 10 such research centers, and scientists undertook up to a hundred expeditions to the heart of "Black Africa".
At the same time, the transformation from a research center to a full-fledged university took more than a hundred years: only in 2013 did the school become a higher education institution, and in 2017, by decision of the Privy Council, it received the right to award academic degrees.

Entry requirements, how to apply, what is required to enrol
Applicants to postgraduate programs need a degree or equivalent experience: prospective students are expected to have a first or second class honours degree at the bachelor's level or a relevant master's degree.
Applicants wishing to pursue an MD degree must have a medical degree from an approved institution and subject to habilitation in the UK.
It is important to emphasize that all programs are taught in English, so applicants must meet fairly high admission requirements: without this, it will not be possible to fully study and participate in other aspects of student life. When applying, you must provide IELTS scores of at least 6.5 (minimum 5.5 in each component) or TOEFL score of at least 88 (minimum 21 points in writing and listening, minimum 23 in speaking).
