Associate (Two-Year Programs)

The Associate degree program is a two-year degree program that provides students with basic knowledge and skills in their chosen field. Unlike the undergraduate program, the Associate program is usually more narrowly specialized and focused on the practical application of knowledge in a particular professional field.

The program includes both compulsory and self-selected subjects.

In some cases, students who have successfully completed the Associate program may credit their credits and continue their studies in an undergraduate program.

The NCAA Division I hockey team holds an impressive record with five national championships, including two at the NAIA level, and competes in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA). More than a dozen players of the university made their debut in the National Hockey League. NCAA Division II teams compete in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, representing the university in competitions in a variety of sports.

Marie, Ontario, as well as the St. Mary's River and the Sioux Locks, which are the busiest locks in the world.
  • More than 2100 students study at LSSU. 88% of them are residents of the state of Michigan and are represented by students from each district. 8.3% of students come from Ontario and 3.7% from other states and countries.
  • International students pay the same tuition and fees as Michigan residents,
  • Class sizes at LSSU are up to a maximum of 30 people, usually less,
  • Lake Superior State University has remained fully accredited by the North-Central Association Higher Learning Commission since 1968. This regional accreditation body was established in 1895 and currently oversees more than 1,000 institutions of higher education from 19 states.

Entry requirements, how to apply, what is required to enrol

International students wishing to attend Lake Superior State University (LSSU) are required to prove their English proficiency. There are several ways to confirm the desired level:

  • Score 500 or higher on the "paper-based" TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) test or 61 points on the online version of the TOEFL,
  • Get a score of 72 on the MELAB (Michigan English Language Assessment Battery) test,
  • Pass the Advanced Placement English Language Test (APIEL) with a score of 3 or higher,
  • On SAT tests conducted after May 2016, get a reading and writing score of 510,
  • Complete two years of study at a school, college or university located in an English-speaking country,
  • Get a score of 6.0 or higher on the IELTS (International English Language Testing System) test,
  • Get an academic score of 44 or higher on the PTE (Pearson Test of English) test,
  • Get a score of 85 or higher on the Duolingo test.

Also, students must provide insurance against illness and accidents as part of the program offered by the university - GEOBlue. They must prove their ability to pay tuition, books, fees, and living expenses for one academic year to obtain an I-20 visa form.
