Lake Superior State University (LSSU) is an American university founded in 1946, located in Michigan, on the shores of the lake. LSSU is a public university that offers a variety of undergraduate and non-baccalaureate programs. • The tradition of creating a "List of prohibited words": every year the university publishes a list of words and phrases that are considered redundant, inappropriate. This has become an annual tradition since 1976, the list usually gets a lot of attention from the public and the media.
• The Great Lakes Center for Fresh Waters and Human Health (LSSU) program is actively engaged in research in the field of lake ecology and water purity, and such a course is devoted to the study of the impact of lake health on human and social health.

The Student Activity Center is ideal for classes, meetings and outdoor activities. Inside the SAC there is a six-lane track and four multi-purpose courts for basketball, volleyball and tennis, modern stations for aerobic training.

The NCAA Division I hockey team holds an impressive record with five national championships, including two at the NAIA level, and competes in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA). More than a dozen players of the university made their debut in the National Hockey League. NCAA Division II teams compete in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, representing the university in competitions in a variety of sports.

• Here at Lake Superior State University we are a one rate school. Which means international students will pay the same tuition and fees as a Michigan Resident. 
• The university's 115-acre campus is located on the historic grounds of the former U.S. Army Fort Brady: 14 LSSU buildings are listed on various historical registries. In addition, the campus overlooks Sault Ste. Lake, Marie Lake, Michigan State, and Salt Lake. Marie, Ontario, as well as the St. Mary's River and the Sioux Locks, which are the busiest locks in the world.
• More than 2100 students study at LSSU. 88% of them are residents of the state of Michigan and are represented by students from each district. 8.3% of students come from Ontario and 3.7% from other states and countries.

International students wishing to attend Lake Superior State University (LSSU) are required to prove their English proficiency. There are several ways to confirm the desired level:

• Score 500 or higher on the "paper-based" TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) test or 61 points on the online version of the TOEFL,
• Get a score of 72 on the MELAB (Michigan English Language Assessment Battery) test,
• Pass the Advanced Placement English Language Test (APIEL) with a score of 3 or higher,
• On SAT tests conducted after May 2016, get a reading and writing score of 510,
• Complete two years of study at a school, college or university located in an English-speaking country,
• Get a score of 6.0 or higher on the IELTS (International English Language Testing System) test,
• Get an academic score of 44 or higher on the PTE (Pearson Test of English) test,
• Get a score of 85 or higher on the Duolingo test.

Also, students must provide insurance against illness and accidents as part of the program offered by the university - GEOBlue. They must prove their ability to pay tuition, books, fees, and living expenses for one academic year to obtain an I-20 visa form.
