Summer architecture courses

  • Age of students: 14-18 years (grades 9-12)
  • Dates: 1-28 July (arrivals for 4 weeks).

A special thematic summer course is based on the university program of the University of Pennsylvania for students wishing to become professionals in the field of architecture, construction and engineering. A unique process connects creativity and practical approach: together with experienced, qualified teachers, students will learn the basics of architectural design, experiment with technology and design tools, and in their spare time be inspired by the amazing, special architecture of Philadelphia.

The summer program will be an excellent preparation for those high school students (14-18 years old, 9-12 grades) who plan to enter the relevant faculties and schools. The summer course on architecture complexly and quickly "pumps out" all the core skills, knowledge, and will also help to create a personal portfolio of works that will become a determining factor in enrollment.

The classes will cover a wide range of topics and tasks:

  • 2D and 3D modeling
  • Drawing
  • Technical drawings
  • Modern and classic design methods and tools
  • Use and features of various materials
  • Study of modern software
  • Work with methods of digital processing of information and materials: laser cutting, 3D printing and others.

In each classroom there are no more than 10 people: spacious, sunny and bright audiences with a view of the spacious campus of the University of Pennsylvania and Walnat-street are ideal for thoughtful, productive, attentive work. Each student receives a personal table with special appliances and equipment for work, as well as a locker for things, personal tools and materials. All the work of the pupils takes with them, but before that the employees take professional photographs for inclusion in the archive, they demonstrate at the final exhibition in the own gallery of the University of Pennsylvania.

In addition to the main program in the classrooms for students of the architectural course, trips, meetings and master classes with the best representatives of the profession - designers, architects, builders, brand managers - are planned, who will demonstrate the equipment of modern studios and bureaus, will tell you what it is like to work in this specialty in modern conditions.

Courses of leadership for schoolchildren (International Leadership for Social Impact)

  • Age of students: 14-18 years (grades 10-12)
  • Dates: 1-28 July (arrivals for 4 weeks)

The thematic summer program is aimed at the active development of personal leadership qualities and the upbringing of adolescent high school students as valuable, initiative, useful members of the modern international community. The course is not strictly related to any profession or specialty: it is aimed at developing common personal qualities that will help to achieve success in any field, to become a real cosmopolitan and successfully live, to communicate and work in any country of the world.

Each week of the program (in general, it is designed for 4 weeks) students take one of the positions in the UN:

  • Simulator of real negotiations and discussions
  • Meetings with dishes of different nations of the world, national cuisine, traditions, mentality, history
  • Visiting interesting sites, cities and attractions: excursions to Washington and the Capitol, to the UN office in New York
  • Lectures of international leaders, politicians, historians, diplomats.

The simulator of the UN negotiation provides that the student assumes the role of ruler of a certain country and seeks to withdraw it from a given crisis, dangerous and unfavorable situation. Developing critical and analytical thinking, a sense of self-confidence, leadership qualities, oratory, the student must convince the rest to make the most profitable and expedient decision for his "state" in order to successfully overcome the crisis. Also, team tasks are provided for: students create non-governmental organizations (breadboard models for the duration of the camp's work), which highlight the unobvious modern problems of society and the planet. The team of the professional jury will review the presentations of each organization - the most successful, convincing students are given a real prize, which they will be able to spend on solving the highlighted problem!

Summer internship programs

  • Age of students: 16-18 years (11-12 grades)
  • Dates: June 24-July 14, July 15-August 4 (arrivals for 3 weeks).

A very useful summer course is designed for high school students (16-18 years, 11-12 grades), which is maximally oriented to practice, to determine the future profession and specialty, to learn the subtleties of the work of specialists of different profiles, to obtain valuable knowledge and skills for the university and future career.

For three weeks with your mentor you will comprehend the basics and subtleties of the chosen industry and scope of work, each of which has its own sections:

  • Business (engineering, business, style, finance, law and law, real estate, sports management)
  • Art and creativity (advertising, application development, architecture, fashion and style, web design, journalism, social media and media)
  • Engineering and computer science (application development, coding, web design, engineering)
  • Sphere of entertainment and services (event planning, production of TV and video, theater, museology and art galleries)
  • Marketing and advertising (advertising, work with charities, web design, journalism and the media)
  • Hospitality industry (cooking, restaurant management, hotel management, planning and holding events)
  • Medicine (medicine, veterinary medicine)
  • Policy.

Working with professionals and a full immersion in the professional sphere will help you even before entering the university to understand exactly whether you want to choose this career path and to improve in this industry, thereby reducing the likelihood of wrong choice of the faculty and the loss of time (and money!) in an unsuitable university.

Before the beginning of the course, all students have a full interview, during which the consultant determines your interests, goals and objectives, choosing the most optimal place for the internship: the office of a large company or a banking department, clinic or research laboratory, sports facilities, museum, art studios and crafts workshops.
