Oxford International organizes a summer camp for children and adolescents aged 10 to 17 on the campus of Heriot-Watt University. The university campus is located near the historic center of Edinburgh, from where you can easily reach the Highlands. There are a lot of green plantations on the territory of the camp. International students can enjoy outdoor walks.
A two-week training program in the summer camp includes a large number of excursions and trips for the whole day or half-day in Edinburgh, Glasgow and Stirling.

Brief information: Thanks to the Oxford International curriculum, children and adolescents can improve their English skills and learn more about the peculiarities of the national culture of different countries, since students from countries such as China, Greece, Italy, Russia, Spain, Saudi Arabia, Ukraine . All students are provided with the necessary study materials for classes. Students after completing the curriculum acquire greater confidence in learning and using English.
Classes consist of two categories:
- Language learning;
- Language for life.
The study of language is based on the construction of language blocks and their application for effective communication. The development of communicative skills occurs by replenishing the vocabulary, updating the old knowledge and applying the knowledge gained in practice.
Language for life is the language used by students in the learning process. In this category, topics for study are selected depending on the abilities of a group of students. Main themes:
- Citizenship;
- Skills and abilities for study and work;
- Creative skills;
- Cultural and cross-cultural information.
In addition to the main classes, weekly repetition lessons are held in the format of the Discussion Club. Also, students perform design work, which contributes to the development of creative abilities and skills of working in a team.
English classes are conducted for 6 levels of English for students: from Elementary (A1) to Proficiency (C2). On the second day after the arrival of children and adolescents, entrance tests are conducted: written and oral, according to which students are divided into groups.
The duration of training in the summer camp is 2 weeks.

Accommodation, meals, prices
Students live on the campus of Heriot-Watt University, which is located near the cultural center of Edinburgh. There is a bus stop, a café, shops, a bank near the place of residence.
Children and adolescents being trained in the summer camp are resettled in the university's residence. The residence is located in a picturesque area with numerous gardens. Students are provided with comfortable single rooms, which have an individual bathroom, equipped study space. The students also have a personal WiFi router. Everyone has access to the laundry room and other public facilities. Students of one group are settled in such a way that their sleeping rooms are next to each other. The residence is located within walking distance from the classrooms and the dining room.
Activities Herriot-Watt University Summer Camp
In summer camp Herriot-Watt University Summer Camp students will find a huge number of after-hours activities, taking into account the diverse interests of students. All activities are divided into five main categories:
- Camp events for all students (for example, karaoke or disco);
- Sports for children who are keen on active activities;
- Contests and games for students who like to compete;
- Quiet activities that take place on days after travel;
- Specialized circles and practical classes for students.
After-hour activities are aimed at applying students in practice to the knowledge gained.
Excursions will leave unforgettable impressions for everyone! The program includes trips to nearby cities and to more remote places. Depending on the distance of the place, the excursion includes a trip by train or bus. All guides go through a strict selection of knowledge of historical facts in order to provide children and adolescents with exhaustive and exciting information.
The two-week training program in the summer camp includes the following types of after-hours activities:
- Excursion to Edinburgh by bus, which includes:
- A walking tour along the street Royal Mile;
- A visit to the Edinburgh Castle.
- A city bus ride to Edinburgh for half a day to visit the Royal Botanic Gardens, the opportunity to climb Calton Hill;
- Three half-day bus trips to Edinburgh to visit a large number of museums:
- The Writer's Museum;
- The Museum of Childhood;
- The Museum on the Mound.
- A day excursion to Glasgow, which includes:
- A visit to the city center;
- The Kelvingrove Gallery of Modern Art.
- Day excursion trip to the city of Stirling, which includes:
- A visit to the castle of Stirling;
- Lake Loh Lomond.
- Extra-hour activities on campus (for example, a unique Scottish night and a Ceilidh party).
