Halcyon is a leading IB international school for 11 to 18 year olds, the only non-profit IB school in London.

Educational process

The school day starts at 09:00 and ends at 16:00, with a lunch break at 12:15-13:00. After the first lesson at 10:00-10:15, students take advantage of the morning break and MYP students can have a snack in the cafeteria in the morning or afternoon. Various extracurricular activities are offered during the morning (08:00-09:00) and afternoon (16:00-17:00) hours.

Integrating EdTech into the learning process is a key part of the Halcyon curriculum, helping students develop IB Learner Profile skills. Integrating EdTech into lessons provides students with a set of tools for peer-to-peer collaboration, a variety of ways to present and organize research. This benefits in a range of subjects, from the arts to the humanities.

Middle Year Programme (IB MYP)

The International Baccalaureate Secondary Education Programme (IB MYP) is a coherent and comprehensive curriculum that sets academic objectives and develops the independence and life skills of students aged 11 to 16. These years are a critical period in the development of an adolescent as a person.

The program allows students to play to their strengths and take on challenges, provides opportunities to develop their potential, explore their own learning preferences, take appropriate risks, and reflect on and develop a strong sense of identity.

Diploma Programme (IB DP)

  • The duration of study is 2 years.

The IB Diploma Programme is a university entry qualification established since 1968 with the aim of providing an international education that would enable young people to better understand and manage the complexities of the world, instilling in them the skills and attitudes needed to take action to improve it.

The program is designed to equip students with the academic skills needed for university studies, further education, and their chosen career. The IB Diploma supports the development of the values and life skills necessary to live a fulfilling and purposeful life. The final award, the IB Diploma, is valued by universities around the world as the main admission document.

Accommodation, meals, prices

Halcyon London International School does not offer accommodation for international students. Therefore, students and their families are responsible for securing their own housing arrangements while attending the school.

Additionally, Halcyon is proud of its catering service, which provides nutritious and delicious meals for students. The lunch menu is planned a month in advance and is available for parents to review. The school places a strong emphasis on the health and energy of its students, and the catering team has been recognized for creating a dynamic and flavorful vegetarian lunch menu that includes a variety of options such as main courses, side dishes, soups, salads, and desserts. Homemade snacks are also offered to students in the morning and afternoon, along with a selection of beverages to accompany their meals.

Families considering enrolling their children at Halcyon London International School should plan for their own accommodation arrangements in the city, as the school does not provide housing services for students.

Activities Halcyon London International School

Halcyon is a thriving international community that values every voice and every aspiration. A wide range of vibrant extracurricular opportunities and an integrated social and emotional learning program help students self-shape their learning and realize their unique potential.

Students study the arts throughout the MYP and can choose to study music, visual arts or theatre arts at the IBDP, there is the opportunity to showcase their talents at the annual IB Diploma Music Festival and Visual Arts Exhibition. The school takes full advantage of its location in the city to take students to museums, theatres and exhibitions in London.

At Halcyon, PE is compulsory until Year 10, the school helps to encourage an active lifestyle by offering Fit for Sport classes even at lunchtime. Although the school has limited sports facilities on campus, it makes full use of the nearby Seymour Leisure Centre for climbing, basketball, swimming, and more, football fields at Westway, and a London ice rink.

Facilities and equipment at Halcyon London International School

Halcyon School is at the forefront of technology and is ranked among the UK's 50 EdTech schools in recognition of its innovative use of educational technology to support teaching and improve retention. Each student has their own gadget (laptop, tablet, etc.). The possibilities of using technology are diverse:

  • alternate realities take students beyond the walls of school, into space or into Antarctica,
  • An iPad editing program is used to modify a student's painting,
  • Virtual reality headsets are used to explore architectural creations and redefine geometry.

The campus of Halcyon London International School is equipped with bright classrooms with air conditioning, interactive whiteboards and Wi-Fi access.

Admission dates and extra charges

The academic year at Halcyon London International School runs from September to June. The year is divided into 3 trimesters and holidays in between:

  • Autumn trimester (September – December),
  • Christmas Vacation (2 weeks)
  • Spring trimester (January – March),
  • Easter holidays (2 weeks),
  • Summer term (April – June),
  • Summer holidays (2 months, July and August).

Enrolment process

Applications are accepted throughout the school year, subject to availability in each class. Throughout the admissions process, the Halcyon Director and Admissions Office get to know the applicant and their family on a one-to-one basis. As the application progresses, the school will strive to demonstrate the holistic, thoughtful, and balanced approach to decision-making that Halcyon expects from its students as well.

Stages of admission:

  1. Parents are asked to fill out a questionnaire and pay the admission fee.
  2. The applicant must submit a completed student questionnaire followed by reports for two (G6-8) or three (G9 and above) academic years, transcripts, and/or faculty references. If the applicant has any additional reports, such as an educational psychologist report or a medical needs report, they should be shared with the admissions committee at the application stage.
  3. The admissions committee, headed by the school principal, will review the entire package of documents and recommendations in order to fairly and objectively understand the child's approach to learning. All applicants who demonstrate compliance with the admission criteria will be offered an informal interview with the Director of Halcyon.
  4. Notification of the decision will be sent shortly after the interview.

Through a range of bespoke university advisory services, each student receives advice on decision-making and skills development that open up opportunities in higher education and create success stories. Graduates of Halcyon London International School receive referrals to leading universities in the UK and the world.

Entry requirements, how to apply, what is required to enrol

Halcyon School has the following requirements for its prospective students:

  • high academic performance as determined by school reports/recommendations and, where appropriate, an indicative grade at Halcyon,
  • good intrapersonal communication skills – self-discipline and curiosity, a sense of independence,
  • Good interpersonal skills – the ability to collaborate effectively with peers and adults and build positive social connections,
  • active participation in extracurricular activities and activities aimed at supporting the community,
  • sufficient level of English proficiency to access the education. The school reserves the right not to accept applicants whose proficiency in English would not allow them to access the curriculum.

Applicants who have not had a complete and accurate educational disclosure, including all previous psychological/educational tests, will not be considered.
