Description of Glenalmond College

Glenalmond College is one of the best private schools in Scotland, offering mixed training - boys and girls from 12 to 18 years old. Glenalmond College was founded in 1847 and initially accepted only boys for training - the situation changed only in 1990, and today it has a joint education. The curriculum takes into account and carefully preserves all the main features of the national education system, paying attention to all the characteristics of each student, his/her individual inclinations and academic requirements. Each student has a curator who is ready to help with the solution of any academic issues, to help in a difficult situation.

The main task of Glenalmond College is not only the effective academic development of students but also to cultivate valuable human qualities and social skills: a sense of responsibility, tolerance, respect for other people, the ability to form and defend their point of view. Graduates show excellent results: approximately 98% are enrolled in well known universities, including the most prestigious and rating ones. For the most stubborn, ambitious and gifted students, there are special training programs for entering Oxbridge, preparatory programs for applicants for medical, dental and law faculties. The college pays great attention to the vocational guidance of students - senior students are constantly interviewed, discussions, open lessons on career prospects: how to get the chosen profession, where to go (university and faculty), what subjects are better for studying, etc. College graduates confirm that they received valuable knowledge and skills here that were the basis for their successful career, they received a powerful incentive to personal achievements and successes.

To date, about 15% of students are international students from many countries of the world - an excellent opportunity to integrate into the British education system, adapt to its abilities and requirements. In Glenalmond College there is a special support program that does everything to make foreign students quickly join the school life, they did not have any difficulties in adapting. The main point of the program is that every foreign student has a mentor from among the senior students (he/she is usually older than the student for 1-2 years): the mentor helps to master the English language, understand the intricacies and difficulties of Britain education, get comfortable at the campus, make a schedule and. Etc.

Pupils are admitted to the school starting from the age of 12, but it is also possible to apply later to the priority training program (mostly children arrive at 12-13 and 16 years old). Entrance tests for logic, mathematics and English are required. Foreign students, for whom English is not native, must also provide a certificate confirming the required level (IELTS from 4.0). Students who have shown insufficiently high level of English (not fluent), can pass the supporting and corrective language course EAL: it will help to improve the language skills necessary for the full mastery of the school curriculum.

What sets British schools apart?

British education is globally revered for its high quality. The UK's historical connections, like those with Hong Kong, still attract families seeking schools with an international perspective. Parents look for strong academic results and opportunities for their children to build a global network of friends, preparing them for a multilingual, international world. They also value that British schools often pave the way to top universities, not just in the UK but also in the US, which is a significant bonus.

Every home has a responsible teacher (Housemaster or Housemistress, depending on the male or female hostel): he/she lives in a residence with his/her family, looks after children, ensures their safety, creates a friendly and cozy atmosphere. Each student is assigned to his/her home and enters into a separate "family": competitions often take place between them, they celebrate holidays together and conduct entertainment events. In addition to comfortable living rooms, residences include kitchens, playrooms and cozy living rooms for general rest of all students.

Meals are organized according to the principle of full boarding, three times a day (students spend lunch in school). Review about Glenalmond College

Inga
(21.05.2023)
An excellent classical school with traditional values. The child has been studying here for the second year, now according to their system in the 11th grade. The school is located north of Glasgow, near the city of Perth. A school with its own history and traditions, which are very much appreciated here. At first, it was not easy to get used to the accent (at school everyone speaks clearly, but it is felt in the city) and kilts, which boys must wear here as part of a festive school uniform. The teachers and infrastructure here are excellent. It is noticeable that the management invests a lot of money to make the school more modern. Last year, for example, a new theater studio was opened, and in general, the school has a very developed artistic direction. You can take drama art as a separate subject and take an exam on it, or you can simply participate in a circle, while the capabilities and equipment will be the same.

One of the best educational institutions in Scotland for foreigners. We picked up a strong school with a large territory. Glenalmond decided to consider on the recommendation of Smaps. Initially, we were not going to send the child to Scotland, but we really liked the school. There is a great teaching staff. Teachers are really not indifferent. The school has a beautiful territory, a large selection of extracurricular activities and sections.

We attended this school with a child in 2018. At that time, my son had already been studying at a college in London for a year, but we didn't quite like it there, we wanted to transfer him to a more academic school with a large number of local students. The visit went well, the school has a beautiful grounds and friendly polite staff. The school is located in a beautiful location, on a hill on the banks of the river. But it's really far to get there. You need to fly to Edinburgh or Glasgow. In the end, we still settled on another option, closer to London.

My son attended this school from 2017 to 2019. The school was chosen for a long time, after a long study of the sites, we settled on this option. We needed a strong school for the study of natural sciences, and at Glenalmond it is really given at a good level. The workload at school was heavy, my son often had to study on weekends, besides, there were sometimes lessons on Saturday.
