IB (International Baccalaureate Diploma Program)
The popular and widespread IB program (International Baccalaureate Diploma Program) was developed in Switzerland for full-fledged preparation of high school students (16-18 years) for education in the chosen college or university - today almost all leading universities of the world accept this diploma.
The duration of the course is 2 academic years (6 trimesters). Applicants must confirm high academic performance (especially in English and mathematics), provide positive characteristics from the previous place of study + motivation letter and finish 10 classes of secondary school. The English language level must be at least 5.5 on the IELTS scale or 71 on the TOEFL iBT.
The course prepares students for effective education on the IB program: develops their academic, personal and leadership skills, critical and analytical thinking, independence and responsibility, socially adapts them to a new domestic, linguistic and cultural environment. The IB program can be taught in English, French or Spanish: some disciplines (mother tongue, national and world literature) can be read in the pupil's native language. For the convenience of drawing up the curriculum, all directions and subjects are divided into 6 thematic blocks:
- Foreign language + literature (at the choice of the student)
- Mother tongue + world literature
- Mathematics
- Social and human sciences: information technology, psychology, history, business courses, geography, economics, philosophy
- Natural science courses: ecology, biology, physics, chemistry
- Additional disciplines: at the choice of the student - one subject from the previous blocks or art and creativity (music, theater and drama, design and technology).
In total, each student chooses 5-6 disciplines. Each selected subject can be studied at two levels of difficulty:
- Standard level: 150 hours for study - the first lessons are devoted to the introduction of discipline, mastering the basics
- Higher level: 240 hours for study - deeper and more thorough education, requiring basic key knowledge of the subject, more modules and harder exams.
Additionally, all students attend mandatory courses:
- Theory of Knowledge (TOK) - general theory of knowledge
- Creativity, Action, Service (CAS) - "Creativity, action, service"
In fact, it teaches students to learn: teachers introduce students to various methods of cognition, methods of rapid and effective development, understanding and memorizing materials, independent work. A large number of seminars and discussions are provided, during which students learn to conduct a constructive dialogue, to express their point of view, to hear their opponent and choose the right arguments.
Extra-curricular activities, which are taken into account as part of basic achievement. Manifestation of creative thinking and employment in art studios, sports competitions and tournaments, charitable and volunteer, environmental actions - all this is taken into account in the standings in this direction.
In addition, every student should write an academic essay (volume from 4000 words) to the end of the IB program: this serves as an excellent education of academic writing, information analysis and the ability to work with various sources.
At the end of the IB course, students take exams for each chosen subject. The maximum score is 7, that is, for the entire course you can get 43 points + 3 points for additional electives = 45 points. To receive a diploma, the student must score at least 24 points (not less than 3 points for each of the selected disciplines).
Thie course price includes education on the program, accommodation and meals (+ bed linen, but not towels), medical insurance, transfer in both directions.
