The official languages of Canada are English and French. Today, a large percentage speak English (approximately 75%), and the remaining 25% speak French. A large percentage of the population are bilinguals – people who have two native languages.
The neighbouring country of the United States is considered English-speaking, but in almost all government agencies you will find a French translation. There are provinces in the country where people communicate with each other only in French.
As a foreign language, the following languages are taught in schools and universities in Canada:
- French (in public schools it is a common language)
- Italian
- Spanish
- Punjabi
- Ukrainian.
On the territory of the country, many of its residents like to learn exotic Asian languages:
- Chinese
- Turkish
- Japanese.
