Rose of York London Language School has been successfully teaching English to international students since 1989. We offer an extensive variety of programs - from general English to preparing for language tests and specific courses for professionals in various industries. The school is conveniently located in the most central street in London, Oxford Street. Rose of York is regularly inspected by the British Council and have always successfully attained its accreditation, thanks to the high level of services offered and the quality of teaching provided. Teachers deserve a special mention: they are qualified, experienced teachers who have taught English as a foreign language for many years and are continually developing their teaching skills. General English courses

  • Pupils in the classroom: 12-16 people

The General English course is universal: it will help students with any level of basic education and significantly improve all the basic language skills and knowledge. The main emphasis is on immersion in the language environment, improving communication and speech skills, expanding vocabulary and improving pronunciation. Also, written language, listening skills (listening comprehension), reading, correcting and accent are improved, grammar is studied. Every 5 weeks, students write tests that determine their level of progress: the test shows how well the students have learned the material they have covered, and which aspects and topics should be paid more attention.

Combination Programs

The Combination Programs not only include different formats of classes (both group and individual), but also provides the opportunity to focus on a topic that is more important for you:

1) + Spoken English

Discuss and exchange opinions with other students, role-playing games and situations - all with the purpose that you quickly overcome the language barrier and learn how to communicate in English in a variety of situations.

2) + Advanced Business English

This class will help you to improve your Business English. Students practice conducting negotiations and interviews, preparing presentations, conducting telephone and face-to-face negotiations, drawing up official documents, drafting business documents and correspondence.

3) + Pronunciation and accent

The development of British pronunciation, correction of the existing accent (for Russian students this is often a problem) is provided.

4) + Writing skills

This course will help you to prepare for entering a college or university. Teachers will show you samples of different styles of writing and demonstrate various writing techniques.

5) + Preparation for exams.

This supplement is aimed not only at the development of all basic exam skills, but also at getting familiar with the specific structure of each exam, it's features and often-encountered difficulties.

If you have chosen General English as a base, you can supplement your course with 1 or 2 electives from the options above.

Preparing for IELTS

  • Pupils in the classroom: 8-16 people

IELTS is the most popular and demanded English test in the world. In many respects this is due to its objectivity and reliability of the results. The IELTS program will help you qualitatively prepare for the passing of international testing (if desired, the course can be added as an additional to the main General English program).

Much attention is paid to the development of conversational skills and the expansion of lexical vocabulary: this will help students to successfully pass the speaking test and to write a good essay on a given topic. In addition, it is very useful to develop skills based on materials from previous years: so students can get acquainted with the structure of the test, its key features and difficulties.

Students will examine past examples of the tasks so that they can get acquainted with the structure of the test, it's scheme and the main difficulties. Regular practice tests are conducted: it helps both the teacher and students to track the degree of progress and mastery of the material, if necessary, teachers can adjust the program and pay more attention to the most difficult sections, topics and aspects.

Regular practical tests are conducted: it helps both the teacher and students to track the degree of progress and mastery of the material, if necessary, to adjust the program and pay more attention to the most difficult moments, topics and aspects.

  • Banking and Finance

Financial reports, business plans, market appraisal and analysis, debates and discussions on mergers / acquisitions, compilation of financial forecasts, and peculiarities of work in the exchange market.

  • Legal English

Drawing up contracts, developing, understanding and explaining contracts to clients, skills for working in courts of general jurisdiction (communication with authorised persons, preparation of claims and appeals). Active study of terminology, discussing the differences between case law, criminal  and civil law.

  • Media and Marketing

Work with marketing plans (discussion, compilation, analysis, development, planning). Studying the needs of the buyer and the consumer, writing of advertising materials, and working on the expansion of a profile. Presentation of marketing companies, holding meetings, negotiations and debates.

  • Mass Media

Focussing on the advertising materials on TV, the Internet and printed publications (newspapers, magazines, brochures). Writing headlines and articles, advertising campaigns, preparing and conducting professional debates and discussions, Internet marketing.

  • Medical English

Discussion of medical histories, and medical articles in modern media. Describing prescriptions and recommendations, collecting information, diagnosing (all in English), communicating with patients.

  • Hospitality and tourism

Sociological research, communication with guests and staff management. Writing of reports, advertising materials, analysis of customer satisfaction. Special vocabulary for resolving conflicts and difficult situations, drawing up recommendations, working with objections and complaints.

Individual sessions

Accommodation, meals, prices

Students at Rose of York Language School London can choose their preferred accommodation from the following options:

  • Host family

This is a great opportunity to get to know life, traditions and the cultural characteristics of the English, to practice everyday conversational skills with English speakers. A B & B or half-board option is available. As a rule, students of one nationality do not stay in the same family - this allows you positively attain linguistic progress. Each family is constantly monitored and checked by the school staff.

  • Student residence

The option is designed for independent, active, sociable students who prefer to develop communication skills in an informal setting and want to find new friends from around the world. Residences are under supervision 24/7. Students can use the fully equipped, functional kitchens, laundry facilities, wireless high-speed Internet (free of charge), and communal living areas.

  • Hostel

Perhaps the best choice for students on short-term courses: it is suitable for students on a low budget and will allow you to constantly practice conversational and communication skills. Most of the hostels offered are located in zone 1, so the journey to the school will not take long.

Twin and double rooms are available only to students who travel together and have signed up for a course together. In summer, a surcharge is charged (high season, July-August).

Located in the centre of London, our facilities are of a high standard and designed our students’ comfort in mind. Our school can be found in a multilevel building in the centre of London. Rose of York offers a light, comfortable and safe environment in which our students can learn. Most importantly, our high standard of facilities will add to your learning experience.

Our light, modern and comfortable classrooms are furnished to a high standard. Additionally, we provide computers and interactive whiteboards in designated areas. Students enjoy spacious classrooms with clear views to all whiteboards. We design our classrooms to encourage student-focused learning.

A peaceful and well-resourced library and an internet café is available to our students. In light of this, students have access to a wide range of books, and DVDs. Additionally, our internet café has computers available. Rose of York creates a relaxing environment where our students can explore the internet or simply relax and watch TV.

A students’ common room is available. Every Wednesday we offer a tea party where students can get together and relax. Additionally, we have a lovely outdoor terrace. Here students can have lunch, relax and continue to socialise with friends.

Equally important, Rose of York offers free access to Wi-Fi throughout the school. We encourage the use of internet for homework assignments and self-study. However, unless allowed by the teacher, we do not allow the use of internet in classrooms. Ask in reception for access details.

 

Admission dates and extra charges

Rose of York London Language School will close over the Christmas holidays, as well as during the following bank holidays: Friday 30 March, Monday 2 April, Monday 7 May, Monday 28 May and Monday 27 August.

The cost of studying in a language school depends on the selected course and its intensity (the price is indicated for 1 person for 1 week of lessons).

There are available for general English courses, Business English, preparation for IELTS and Cambridge exams.
