Education information

Education in the UAE began its history less than 50 years ago, and therefore managed to absorb only the most modern and effective standards. Here they adapt the experience of world leaders in education: the USA, Great Britain, Canada and Australia. 15-20% of the state budget is spent annually on the educational sector. Foreign students make up a large part of both the student and teaching staff.

Maths schools in UAE are characterized by the following advantages for the foreign students:

  • The studying is conducted in English;
  • Curricula comply with international educational standards;
  • International composition of academic groups;
  • Accommodation in the student residence, meals are organized on the school campus;
  • A safe environment and constant support by educators.

The first private schools of the UAE appeared in 1953 on the territory of the city of Sharjah – then the first British school was opened in the country. All private secondary education institutions in the Emirates have a permit, accreditation and license confirming their right to provide full secondary education (that is, from 1-th to 11th grade) and the issuance of a certificate.

Maths programme of study in UAE – specifics of studying

Secondary education programs in private schools in the UAE include the following subjects:

Secondary school education in the UAE for schoolchildren and students offers several international—level programs for studying in high school - such courses prepare high school students for admission to universities, both in the Emirates and in any other country abroad:

  • GCSE, General Certificate of Secondary Education, - the program provides in-depth academic knowledge in disciplines, allows to improve language level and research skills, which are necessary for obtaining education in a high school. The curriculum is divided into compulsory and optional disciplines: the latter help students better navigate when choosing a profession and specialty they are interested in studying. After study GCSE maths in UAE and the successful passing of exams, the graduates obtain prestigious certificate of secondary education, allowing to enrol in TOP colleges and universities in the UAE, Europe, and other countries of the world.
  • According to Swiss program for high school students, the studying is offered in compliance with the educational standards of Europe: this is an in-depth study of seven academic subjects, one optional and an additional discipline in the profile. Studies in the Swiss-style program are conducted in English or French. Holders of a certificate of this type can safely enter prestigious universities around the world, and Swiss universities will accept such students even without entrance exams.
  • British A-Level program is one of the most popular programs: from the age of 16 to 18, students study A-level maths and 3-4 disciplines, which they choose based on their future specialization. Additionally, the program provides for preparation of an Extended Project by the students, the result of which will be a work in the format of a detailed essay.
  • Program International Baccalaureate is one of the most demanded and popular high school program all over the world. Two years of study include the learning of six subjects: 3 on standard level and 3 in-depth. The foreign students also study the theory of knowledge and the CAS course (Creativity, Service, Activity). During the course, students will be prepared to write a competent academic essay in an expanded format (from 4 thousand words).

The studying of maths in private schools in UAE for foreign students will cost on average from 10 thousand to 20-25 thousand dollars for one academic year. The cost of studying will depend on several factors: the level and ranking of the school, its prestige, location, selected educational program, accommodation conditions, entertainment program.

Control system of quality education in maths schools in UAE

The Government of the Emirates takes the quality of educational services very seriously. Every year, a special state body, The Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA), inspects universities and private schools in Dubai and, based on this inspection, compiles national rankings of educational institutions.

Each private school in Dubai is assigned 1 of 4 categories: outstanding, good, acceptable, and unsatisfactory.

The main criteria for assessing the quality of education in a particular educational institution are:

  • Student achievements in key subjects;
  • Student grades;
  • The effectiveness of teaching and school management;
  • The effectiveness of the educational institution as a whole.

The results of the inspections are published in open access on the official website of the KHDA.
