Entry requirements, how to apply, what is required to enrol

Kimbolton has a selective approach to the selection of candidates for education. Each candidate is required to pass entrance exams:

  • Kindergarten, Junior Preparatory School (Grades 1 & 2). All candidates for admission are visited by a junior preparatory staff member to get to know the child in a familiar environment. Children are then invited to join ongoing classroom activities for a few days in January: these classroom visits include age-appropriate assessments.
  • Senior Preparatory School (Grades 3-6). Towards the end of January, children will be invited to join the classrooms for one day, during which they will attend exciting activities and evaluate their results. After that, entrance exams will be held on Saturday: testing includes English, mathematics and logical thinking (verbal and non-verbal).
  • Grade 7. Candidates are invited for an interview in January before the entrance exams: the test includes papers in mathematics, English and oral reasoning.
  • Grade 9. For candidates from preparatory schools aged 13 and over, there is a general intake in May/June. All other candidates are invited for an interview in January and then take entrance exams (Mathematics, English and Oral Reasoning).
  • Sixth Form. Candidates are interviewed in January or February prior to admission, and are offered a place on the condition that they meet the GCS entry requirements: at least 5 final examinations in grades 6 and above with admissions in mathematics and English. Subjects that will be studied at A-level must be passed with a grade of at least 6.
