Description of Cambridge University Junior Summer School

  • Students age: 13-18 years

The Summer School at Cambridge University is an opportunity for students from all over the world Significantly improve their academic and language skills in a friendly international atmosphere, spend an unforgettable vacation with peers from around the world. During the summer three-week course, students will be able to show their talents and abilities, develop communicative and leadership skills, acquire new skills and interesting, happy to spend time. The leisure program of the courses is incredibly rich and varied; In addition to the entertainment function, she continues the curriculum, enabling her to practice the classroom skills in an informal, free and relaxed environment.

In the UK the program is represented at the University of Cambridge (Queens' College) and the University of St Andrews.

Every year, students from more than 60 world countries come to the camp, and more than 40% of schoolchildren come back to courses again, bring their friends and relatives. There is a quota for each nationality - no more than 10% of the total number of students: thus language practice becomes as effective as possible, and academic progress is rapid. Classes are formed small so that each teacher can give personal attention to all students. The ratio of teachers to students is 1: 5. All the teachers of the summer courses have the appropriate certificates for working with foreign students and international groups - these are real professionals, experienced and enthusiastic.

All lessons are conducted from Monday to Saturday from 9:00 to 12:00, after the pupils can attend interesting electives (more about this in the detailed description of the programs), go in for sports and creativity, go on excursions and communicate with peers.

SUMMER COURSES OF ENGLISH LANGUAGE

Elective Programme

  • Age of students: 13-18 years

A universal general English course provides interactive, interesting and effective studying. This is not a dull cramming, but the study of active and living English: constant communication, the formation of one's point of view and the search for arguments, the development of communication skills, the study of British traditions and historical features. Full immersion in the new language environment and quota for representatives of each nationality increases the effectiveness of teaching, allowing students to overcome the language barrier in a matter of days.

The complex develops all the basic language skills:

  • Reading
  • Auditing (perception of a foreign speech by ear)
  • Written speech
  • Oral, spoken English
  • Grammar
  • Vocabulary
  • Phonetics (correct pronunciation, correction of accent).

For students already possessing a sufficiently high level of English, a more advanced and complex course is developed, focused on the development of specific skills and abilities. For example, students can intensively study the rules of written English (structure of writing, etiquette, etc.), concentrate on expanding vocabulary, correct pronunciation or correction of accent, etc.

In addition to the basic English course, various electives are offered, which the student can choose according to his taste (additional classes are held from Monday to Saturday from 13:00 to 14:00):

  • Tennis

For studying, both beginners and experienced players are allowed: professional coaches will make an optimal program of studying for an athlete of any level. Children will learn basic strokes, game rules, tactical and strategic subtleties and tricks, playing skills with different types of opponents. Regularly held friendly games and matches between players of a similar level, and towards the end of the program, the Big Tennis Tournament is held.

  • Leadership Program

A special course is designed for active and ambitious students, developing their personal and leadership qualities, self-confidence and their own abilities. Almost all classes are held outdoors: it can be sailing, rafting, rock climbing and climbing, a variety of team games and etc. All classes and the performance of each task are supervised by professional teachers and instructors.

  • Theater and Dramatic Art

Program for creatively gifted students: under the guidance of a professional director, students can create their own performance and take part in it. Practically every day there are interesting seminars and master classes, lectures with invited specialists, etc.

  • Photo and photo work

Special professional program is designed for photography enthusiasts. Students will shoot and edit photos on various topics, work in different styles (the best will be published in a school-wide newspaper): reportages, portrait photos, landscapes and wildlife photos.

  • Fencing

A program is designed for students with any level of initial skills - even those who have never before taken a rapier. Students will master numerous exercises for the development of coordination, technology, sharpness, will study the history of fencing and the traditions of this ancient sport. Regularly held sports meetings and tournaments: fencing in the walls of ancient Cambridge University under the guidance of experienced and professional coaches will be an unforgettable, unique adventure.

  • Journalism

Students, keen on the word, will develop research skills and the ability to write thematic articles of various forms and content. At the master classes, lectures and seminars, contemporary problems of ethics, sociology and politics are discussed, and useful knowledge is given regarding the writing and the proper editing of their own texts. Students will learn to write essays, lead and structure arguments, defend their point of view, work on various journalistic styles - interviews, review, article, reportage, scientific research, etc.

SUMMER ENGLISH COURSES FOR ADOLESCENTS

  • Age of students: 13-18 years

The thematic summer programs for students combine a general language course and additional interesting electives that make learning more interesting, diverse, and practical. In addition to the main program, the following options are offered:

  • Debate and Oratory

With the children the professionals are engaged who are able to teach each theory of debate, search and presentation of arguments, to defend their point of view. Students will learn how to "manage" the audience, to correctly express their thoughts, to learn different techniques of discussion, to develop the skill of critical and analytical thinking, will discuss the most pressing issues of our time in the process of lectures, interactive seminars and relevant practical exercises. The course helps you to become more confident in yourself and your strengths, to master the art of persuasion, to feel comfortable in a dialogue with any interlocutor.

  • Business and Entrepreneurship

A special summer program is designed for students wishing to build a career in a business international environment. The course will provide an opportunity to develop valuable personal and leadership qualities, useful business skills, to acquire a sustainable motivation for self-improvement and development.

All students are divided into small groups: during the course each group comes up with its own business idea (service, product, etc.), presents it to the whole class, explores the market and thinks out a plan to promote the product. Students learn the structure of large companies and the secret of their success, the characteristics of the organization, learn to work in a team and assume the authority and responsibility of the manager.

In addition, students learn marketing and goal-setting, learn to distribute their own time (time management), to speak in public (oratorical skills and debates), to build a successful and cohesive team.

Accommodation, meals, prices

On the territory of Queens' College students are accommodated in cozy and comfortable residences: there are rooms for 1-2 people with their own bathroom. Each room has a small kitchen area (you can make a cup of tea or coffee), all the necessary furniture and household appliances.

Activities Cambridge University Junior Summer School

During a three-week check-in, the schoolchildren are offered a wide range of recreational, creative and sports activities, among them:

The summer school in Cambridge is held on the basis of one of the most beautiful and ancient colleges in Cambridge - Queens' College, founded back in 1448. The college territory is fenced and is guarded around the clock. It is located within walking distance of key architectural and historical monuments of the city and the university, has a large number of attractions directly on the campus.
