Description of Butler High School

  • Founded in August 1960;
  • Traditional colors: yellow, white and black;
  • Symbol: Bulldog;
  • Total number of students: 785 people;
  • Training programs: Marine Corps, AP (high school);
  • Type of training: mixed.

The well-known and popular public Butler High School, aimed at the full personal education of students along with serious academic training. The institution is constantly developing, modernizing, expanding, actively participating in student exchange programs and striving to keep pace with the times. Work is constantly carried out with parents, local public organizations are involved to ensure the development of the individual in the atmosphere of the international community, for the education of valuable social and personal qualities. It is believed that parents exert a key influence on the personality of the child and adolescent, so the employees tend to involve families in working with students, arrange committees, regular meetings.

Employees of Butler High School, headed by the director Ched Hill, are trying to create the most comfortable and productive atmosphere for persistent study and achievement of personal goals. In the learning process, interactive methods and approaches are actively used, great attention is paid to the development of critical and analytical thinking. Students are taught to be responsible for their words and deeds, independent, show maturity in their judgments, instill a sense of pride in their school and collective.

Butler High School participates in the Nacel Open Door F-1 Public School Program, an international program that enables international students to get an education in the American High School. The minimum duration of study is 1 academic year (from August to June), the age of students is from 15 to 18 years. Schools participating in the program are in different states: Vermont, North Carolina, California, Maine, etc. Usually lessons last from 8:00 to 15:30 (one session is 45-55 minutes), there is a half-hour break for lunch - at this time students can go to a cafe or dining room or eat lunch cooked at home. The peculiarity of this program is the full, comprehensive and continuous support of foreign students. Employees and supervisors understand very well that many international pupils for the first time go abroad for a long time and alone, so they strive to do everything possible to make stay and study in the country the most comfortable. The program has been successfully working for more than 10 years, hundreds of students have taken part in it - today about 500 pupils participate in Nacel, many of them decided to repeat the training and return to this system. Students are offered such useful opportunities as:

  • Ongoing assistance of the regional director and local coordinator - they interact with the student personally and host family, as well as family members in his/her home country, monitor compliance with living and learning conditions, resolve emerging administrative and domestic issues;
  • Social staff, highly qualified and experienced, ready to help in solving any problems and difficult situations;
  • 24-hour telephone line of trust and support;
  • Travel coordinator is responsible for all student movements, keeps track of the schedule of flights, organizes a transfer and meetings / seeing off.

In high school, students are not only given a large amount of academic knowledge, but also fully prepare for entering a college or university, for a full life in a modern multinational community. The basis for world partnership is the recognition of the uniqueness of each person, opinion and world outlook, understanding the difference of different cultures, nationality and religion, the ability to freely communicate with each other, mutual respect. Graduates of the senior classes are taught to be independent, self-confident mature persons, learn to take responsibility for words and deeds, work in a team.

Training programs in US government institutions are usually selective, so the selection of students here is very appropriate. Applicants must demonstrate a good level of academic knowledge, ability to behave, be persistent and attentive, self-organized, actively participate in extra-curricular activities, clubs and electives. In turn, employees and teachers take full responsibility for the health and safety of their wards. American schools encourage the student exchange in every way: it helps to make the ethnic and cultural composition of students more diverse, to teach children to communicate with each other, to raise the level of self-awareness and mutual respect.

Bear in mind that public high schools in the United States do not guarantee the transfer of early education loans received, mandatory enrollment and the receipt of diplomas - all this depends entirely on the perseverance and commitment of the student. There may also be a partial duplication of training courses, which is due to the difference in the curricula of the US and its home country.

Accommodation, meals, prices

Butler High School students live in American host families. The school staff carefully approaches the selection of families: they are all respectable, honest, law-abiding citizens, many of whom have been cooperating with Näcel for many years. The living conditions are constantly checked and monitored, the local coordinator regularly talks with family members and students to ascertain the quality of the services provided. Families receive sufficient monetary compensation (as a rule, this amount is slightly higher for the representatives of the East Coast - this is due to higher prices and standard of living).

Homestay offers a unique opportunity to constantly practice language and communication skills, quickly overcome the emotional barrier, learn more about the traditions, culture and way of life of Americans. Long-term summer holidays students spend in their home country.

Please pay attention:

  • Foreign students are not allowed to drive a car;
