Senior School sets ambitious academic goals for each student and offers a curriculum that will enable them to excel in all aspects of secondary school education. The emphasis is on breadth of coverage with an element of choice, giving students the opportunity to learn new subjects that they have not studied before. Core STEM subjects are taught alongside creative, physical, and linguistic courses, including modern relevant options such as Chinese and computer science. For example, in Years 10 and 11, in addition to the subjects chosen for GCSEs, girls have the opportunity to study astronomy at GCSE level at the nearby Royal Observatory, Ancient Greek.

Sixth Form

The Sixth Form Individual Curriculum offers students both breadth and specialisation: 25 different A-Level subjects, and an extended project-based qualification, an in-depth Wollstonecraft course.

Teaching at the Sixth Form level reflects a university-style approach where groups of about 5-10 students are trained: this style of conducting seminars allows you to build strong academic relationships with staff and hone your discursive, practical, and presentation skills. The teaching staff creates a supportive environment in which out-of-the-box thinking is valued.

Mentoring will enable girls to learn the skills and mindset needed to succeed. In face-to-face meetings with their teacher, the girls will be able to discuss their aspirations, agree and consider steps to achieve them.

Accommodation, meals, prices

Blackheath High School offers full-time education only.

Healthy and nutritious meals are offered before lessons, during breaks and during daily school lunches. Vegetarian, gluten-free and other special diets are offered.

Admission dates and extra charges

The academic year at Blackheath High School lasts from September to June, divided into 3 trimesters, between which vacations are organized:

  • Easter holidays (2 weeks),
  • Summer term (April – June),
  • Summer holidays (2 months, July and August).

Entry requirements, how to apply, what is required to enrol

It is a mandatory requirement that all applicants be able to speak and write English fluently at a level appropriate to their age group. All applicants will be assessed to establish their level of English language proficiency; All high school applicants must pass the standardized entrance exams in Mathematics and English.

The school may arrange for the candidate to take exams at Blackheath High School or at the current school, depending on future plans.
