Description of Auckland University of Technology

The youngest institution of higher education in New Zealand is Auckland University of Technology (AUT). Originated at first as the Auckland School of Technology, over time the institution became the Oakland Technological University. Its prestige and popularity are based on innovative programs and a creative approach to each student. Due to these criteria, the university annually recruits about 15 percent of foreign youth for education.

Developments of New Zealand scientists deserve world recognition. Here are some of them:

  • A team of researchers from AUT was able to provide practical evidence of successful treatment of brain injuries by drawing from pine.
  • University scientists in the field of linguistics were able to confirm the theory about the origin of the Turkish language from the Indo-European language family.
  • University biologists have discovered unique facts in the study of a squid caught in the Antarctic waters with giant dimensions (a nine-meter monster).

Foundation

  • Age — 17+;

The AUT Foundation Certificate allows international students to prepare for admission to the undergraduate program of their choice. Classes are held at UP International College in the heart of Auckland's business district, and include:

  • Skills for learning (in English);
  • Academic writing and reading;
  • Fundamentals of academic ethics and principles of APA Formatting and Citation;
  • Skills in preparing and conducting presentations;
  • Development of critical thinking;
  • Mastering the skills and softskills necessary for self-study.

Depending on the degree of intensity, the duration of the course may vary - from 6 months to one and a half years, but the basic option is 2 semesters. During the course, students listen to the following courses:

  • in English, which will allow you to participate in academic discussions, develop the skills of research, paraphrasing and quoting;
  • educational equipment (from the use of a personal computer and the necessary software to the rules for conducting case studies, designing links and methods of note-taking);
  • the basics of accounting;
  • microeconomics and fundamentals of macroeconomics;
  • algebra, analysis and geometry;
  • art, painting, design (from drawing methodology to photography, poster typography);
  • art history (from the Renaissance to the present);
  • history (mainly the history of New Zealand, the Maori, Pākehā and their relationships);
  • the basics of statistics;
  • inorganic chemistry;
  • biology (organism, environment, biochemistry, cell biology, etc.);
  • quantitative methods;
  • "Government, markets and society" (a set of basic information about economic, political, legal and social institutions, principles of the functioning of the economy).

In addition, within the framework of the course, students will get an idea of the social, cultural, historical and economic background of life in New Zealand, its legal system, the education system.
