John Leggott Sixth Form College was founded in September 1968 in connection with the reorganization of the education system in Scunthorpe. Today, the college is widely known as JLC. John Leggott College is located in the heart of Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire and has excellent links with the local community. The city boasts a cinema, entertainment centre, a wide range of shops and parks, and is within reach of major cities including Hull, Leeds, Sheffield and Nottingham.

JLC is one of the oldest Sixth Form colleges in the country, and although it has been around for over 50 years, it continues to adapt to today's student needs. JLC's facilities include state-of-the-art facilities to ensure students have everything they need to achieve their goals.

John Leggott College prides itself on being able to offer students a wide range of social spaces for entertainment, places to relax, dine or study. Wi-Fi works throughout campus, so students can check emails, browse the internet, watch videos, and listen to music.

The campus includes several modern centers:

  • Portal is a large IT center with open access for all students: it is equipped with modern personal computers, there is additional space for working and connecting your own devices. Throughout the year, Portal holds scheduled classes in one of the three IT sections, and the college's IT support team is also based here.
  • Studio is a specialized performing arts center. It includes: a performance hall for 140 seats with a spring floor, large rehearsal rooms, state-of-the-art sound and light booths, recording studios. There is also a separate dance studio: air-conditioned, with a special springy floor, full-wall mirrors, a ballet barre and changing rooms. Throughout the year, JLC students use these spaces for rehearsals and performances, and the Studio regularly hosts live music concerts and theatrical performances for the general public.
  • The Hub is a bright and spacious reading room where students can study, read and relax. At the back of the Hub, a quiet study space can be found, the chess club often uses this space for education in their free time. It is also home to the Student Services and the Learner Pathways Team.
  • The Core is the central hall of the JLC, where the immersive space is located – a 180-degree screen that can be used by staff and students for lessons and extracurricular activities. Live music sessions, talks and seminars are regularly held here.

John Leggott College has also prepared excellent sports facilities that can be used by everyone who wants to participate in sports events:

  • A large gym with a well-equipped fitness room,
  • Outdoor All-Weather Multi-Purpose Playground (Muga),
  • 3 football fields,

Application Procedure:

  2. The application will be registered by the Admissions Committee and confirmed by e-mail within 2 working days,
  3. After reviewing the application, the candidate will be invited for an interview,
  4. It is necessary to confirm the current academic performance for the predicted assessment of the candidate's academic performance,
  5. Upon successful completion of the interview, the candidate will receive a letter of invitation to study at JLC.

Some programs require an audition or portfolio. In general, the admission rules at JLC depend on the age of the candidate and are quite loyal for international students.

Entry requirements, how to apply, what is required to enrol

John Leggott College has the following requirements for candidates:

  • Final English Language Exam for Grade 4 or above with a GPA of 3.2,
  • GCSE Year 5 in Science, Maths and with a GPA of 4 or above.

Scholarships John Leggott Sixth Form College

JLC is committed to providing students with advice and support in financial matters, the college has a number of scholarships and endowments available to assist each student. JLC's Student Services team is the key point of contact for financial hardship.

John Leggott College offers the following types of scholarships to its students:

  • National Guaranteed Scholarship. This is a fund for vulnerable students of up to £1,200 for the entire academic year. Students in care, who have graduated from high school, or who are self-employed in universal credit or ESA and PIP/DLA can apply for funding to cover course related expenses.
  • 16-19 scholarship. This fund is for students from low-income families to help them cover the basic costs associated with the course. This may also include meals or a travel fee. This fund is for students aged 16-19 (hence the name).
  • Foundation for the Support of Students Over 19 Years of Age. This discretionary fund is for students aged 19 and over whose courses are funded by ESFA (Education and Skills Funding Agency). Eligibility is assessed based on the student's (family's) own income.
