Dundalk Institute of Technology (DkIT) is a technology institute, the focal point for higher education in the North Leinster and South Ulster region.

The institution was founded as Dundalk Regional Technical College, which opened its doors to the first students in 1971. In January 1998, the college was reorganized into the Institute of Technology. Now about 6,000 students from different countries study here, including the UK and the EU countries. Bachelor's and Master's degree programs are offered for study, the degree of which can be obtained in two formats: full-time and partial (infrequent attendance of classes) training.

International Foundation Programmes

International students, upon admission to DkIT, take an entrance test to assess their level of English, and then enter the appropriate Foundation program. Courses are suitable for those who have received secondary education, have sufficient knowledge of English (IELTS from 4.5) and wish to enter the specialties of tourism, technology, business or computer science. Completion of one of the programs will allow students to move to the first year of study of their choice. undergraduate programs.

Certificate in Basic Studies

The duration of training will be two semesters, during which basic and optional disciplines will be studied. During the first semester, the basic ones will be:

Pre-Sessional English Certificate

The course lasts one semester and is designed for students who have already qualified for admission to a bachelor's or master's degree, but do not meet the English language requirements for a degree.

Accommodation, meals, prices

The Dundalk Student Village is located on the IT campus, a 25-minute walk from the train station. The complex is equipped with 40 apartments, each of which is designed for five tenants. Students have private rooms with single beds, workstations. In common use among the five tenants there are two bathrooms, a kitchen, a living room with a TV and DVD.

Access to the residential area is limited and is carried out using a key fob. The buildings are under round-the-clock video surveillance and security.

Near the hostel you can find a restaurant and a university bar, several shops, a gym. To the city center, the road will be about 10 minutes by bus.

If there are no vacant places in the apartments, the staff of the institution helps students rent housing in the city. Often, students choose apartments: joint housing in houses, apartments or rooms.

On the campus there are six canteens where you can buy full lunches, snacks, drinks and fresh pastries. The main university restaurant can accommodate up to 500 students at a time.

Activities Dundalk Institute of Technology (DkIT)

More than 65 student clubs and societies have been created at the institute, each student will be able to find like-minded people for extracurricular activities - from football to politics, from photography to horseback riding, from dance to circus art.  In addition to regular social events, many societies arrange evening movie screenings, trips to restaurants and nightclubs, visits to cultural places and much more. If there is no club in the institution that could satisfy the interests of the student, everyone can create their own, gaining the required number of participants and registering a new association.

The main sports areas in DkIT are team games: American football, basketball, volleyball. Also for visiting are sections of fencing, athletics, various types of wrestling, surf club and others.

Facilities and equipment at Dundalk Institute of Technology (DkIT)

The university is located on an area of 90 acres. The massively landscaped campus boasts excellent facilities and a variety of services, as well as easy access to downtown Dundalk and Ireland's two major cities.

The educational buildings are equipped with lecture halls, practical laboratories, computer classes. Students can enjoy free WiFi, university PCs, and Apple equipment on campus.

DkIT has an art collection of 120 works, including tapestries and sculptures, and the facade of one of the buildings is decorated with "Sails of Gerda Fromeul". Also in the large library of the institute there are exhibitions of exhibits that began to be collected since the foundation of the institution.

Students have access to six canteens and coffee shops, several recreation rooms, sports facilities. Great attention is paid to sports, so full-scale fields for team games, indoor grounds, gyms and classes for individual training, as well as a 20-meter swimming pool are prepared for training.

Admission dates and extra charges

You can study in DkIT by choosing one of the following options:

Depending on the type of training chosen, the dates of the program vary. The standard academic year lasts from September to mid-June, holidays are provided on the days of international and national holidays, and weekends are organized on Saturdays and Sundays.

Enrolment process

Applicants from non-EU countries can apply online. It is necessary to select the course of interest to the student and fill out a questionnaire, attaching the required documents to it. If the application is approved, the applicant will receive an initial letter with a proposal for admission and further points of action. The future student will have to pay fees for the first year of study, provide health insurance.

Upon receipt of receipts and documents, the staff will send a final letter of proposal. Then the student will be able to apply for a visa, start renting housing.

Entry requirements, how to apply, what is required to enrol

For admission to any of the DkIT programs, international students must provide personal documents, a diploma of previous education and transcripts. Also included in the list of requirements is the result of the IELTS English proficiency exam: from 4.5 for short-term courses to 7.5 for master's studies. In general, students need to have a language level not lower than B2 according to the CEFR.
