Belgium visa application

Belgium

Specific details

Applicants must submit their documents through the official BLS Visa Application Center, and appointments must be booked no more than six months ahead of the planned trip.

The Schengen visa, including a visa to Belgium, is granted by the consulate of the country where the majority of your time will be spent. If you're visiting several Schengen area countries, apply at the consulate of the country where you'll spend the most days. If the number of days in each country is equal, apply at the consulate of the first country you'll visit.

Visa fees, which are 35 euros for a Schengen visa C and 180 euros for a long-term visa, are paid at the Visa Application Center.

For a long-term student visa to Belgium, or visa D, you must visit the Belgian Consulate in person the day after submitting your documents to fill out the application form. An application form for a short-term tourism visa to Belgium or study visa to Belgium is completed online via the BLS website and then printed for submission.

Please note that the Belgian Consulate reserves the right to request any additional documents deemed necessary for making a decision on your visa to study in Belgium or educational visa to Belgium application.

Short stay Schengen visa

Here's your list of required documents for obtaining a Schengen visa to Belgium, including student visas and tourism visas, rewritten in a more natural, English-speaking style:

  1. An original, valid foreign passport that is signed by the applicant. The passport should be valid for at least three months after your planned departure from the Schengen area, issued no more than ten years ago, and contain at least two blank pages. It should also be undamaged.

  2. A Schengen visa application, completed fully on the Visa-On-Web site in either German, Dutch, French, or English. This must be printed, dated, and signed. For applicants under 18 years old, a parent or guardian must sign the application.

  3. A recent color photograph that meets the photo requirements for a Schengen visa.

  4. A letter of invitation or confirmation of enrollment in a course, school, or university. Evidence of payment for tuition and other fees, or a sponsorship letter confirming financial solvency, may be required.

  5. If employed, a confirmation of employment letter from your employer, including salary details.

  6. For students or pupils, a student ID (original and copy) or a certificate from your school or university is needed.

  7. If retired, a pension certificate copy.

  8. For self-employed individuals, confirmation of commercial activity, tax documents, and a bank statement for the last three months may be required.

  9. Proof of financial stability can include a salary certificate from your employer or a bank statement for the last three months. For unemployed applicants, a sponsorship letter from a parent or partner plus proof of their financial stability is needed. Each applicant should confirm they have at least 95 euros for each day of hotel stay, and at least 45 euros per day for homestays.

  10. For minors, a copy of their birth certificate and a notarized consent letter from the parent(s) is required. If the child is travelling alone or with one parent, a notarized consent letter from the non-travelling parent is needed. If the parent(s) have a valid Schengen visa, a copy is needed. A sponsorship letter from parents to cover the child's expenses during the trip may also be required.

  11. All foreign applicants must provide a document confirming their right to stay in the country, such as a residence permit, long-term visa, or registration document, valid for at least three months after returning from the Schengen area.

  12. A health insurance policy that is valid in all Schengen countries. This should cover medical transportation, emergency medical care (including hospital care), and repatriation, with a minimum coverage of 30,000 euros. The policy must be valid for the entire stay in the Schengen area. If you're applying for a long-stay or multiple-entry visa, a policy covering the period of the first trip is sufficient.

  13. If you have an old passport that contains Schengen visas issued in the last three years, it's recommended to provide a copy of its personal data page and the Schengen visas.

  14. A copy of your internal passport, including all pages with relevant markings, such as personal data, registration details, marital status, and information about previously issued passports.

Remember that this list applies generally to visas to Belgium, including Student visas to Belgium, study visas to Belgium, and Educational visas to Belgium. Be sure to check specific requirements if you're applying for a specialized visa, like a visa to study in Belgium.

Long-term student visa D

Here's the document list you provided, rewritten in a more natural, English-speaking style, for a long-term student visa D to Belgium:

You'll need to prepare three sets of documents: the original documents, plus two sets of copies.

Primary Documents:

  1. An original, valid foreign passport, signed by the applicant. This passport should be valid for at least one year after the date of departure from the Schengen area and should have been issued within the last ten years. It needs to have at least one blank page for each applicant. If a child included in a parent's passport is traveling with that parent, there must be two blank pages in the passport. The passport must be undamaged.

  2. Two completed long-term visa applications. These should be filled out on the Visa-On-Web site in either German, Dutch, French, or English, printed, dated, and signed. If the applicant is under 18, a parent or guardian must sign.

  3. Proof of payment for administrative fees. You need to pay these fees to the Ministry of the Interior before you submit the application.

  4. Two identical, recently taken color photos that meet Schengen visa requirements. Paste one photo onto each application form.

  5. A certificate of admission. This can be a letter of admission to a Belgian institution of higher education, or registration for an entrance or final exam.

  6. Confirmation of financial stability. The student must have enough financial resources to cover living expenses, study costs, healthcare, and repatriation. For the academic year 2019/2020, the minimum amount is €670 net per month. If the student receives a scholarship or loan that is less than €670 per month, additional documents to confirm financial stability are required.

  7. If applicable, a diploma and an appendix with grades. This is only necessary if the Belgian institution required it for admission.

Additional Documents:

  1. A medical certificate from a medical center accredited by the Belgian embassy.

  2. A certificate of no criminal record, valid for up to six months before the application date. Students under 21 who are enrolled in a public university or 18 years old who are enrolled in a private university are exempt from this requirement.

  3. A copy of the internal civil passport.

Remember, all the documents you submit should be pertinent to your visa to Belgium. Be it a study visa to Belgium, an educational visa to Belgium, a student visa to Belgium, or a long-term student visa D to Belgium. It's essential to ensure you meet the specific requirements for the particular visa you are applying for.
