Applying for a visa to Australia

Australia

Specific details

The specifics of visa application

The Department of Immigration and Visa of the Australian Embassy accepts documents for issuing visas from residents and citizens of the specific countries.

When applying for a visa to Australia, including a student or educational visa, it's important to follow the required procedures and document guidelines. This includes submitting notarised English translations of all necessary documents. If you cannot leave the originals of certain documents, such as birth certificates or air tickets, at the embassy, it's acceptable to provide notarised copies instead. Keep in mind that all originals must bear the seal of the issuing organisation and have an accepted notarised translation.

In situations where a business trip is involved, the applicant should apply for a work or business visa. Along with the necessary documents, an official or business invitation to Australia should be attached to the application.

Australian visas, including student visas, fall into several categories:

  1. Category 600: This category is for tourist visas. It allows for short-term study such as language courses lasting up to 3 months. However, if the duration of the course is between 5 and 12 academic weeks, the applicant is required to undergo a medical examination. If the course duration is 1 to 4 weeks, there's no need for a medical examination.

  2. Category 573: This visa is designated for those intending to pursue a Master's degree program.

  3. Category 572: This visa category is for high school education.

  4. Category 571: This category is for individuals seeking education at a secondary school level.

  5. Category 570: This visa type is for individuals intending to take English language courses or exams that last for a period of 3 months or more.

Ensure you apply for the right category of visa that aligns with your purpose of visiting Australia, whether for tourism, study, or work.

Tourist visa - stay up to 3 months

When planning to apply for a tourist visa to Australia, which allows a stay of up to 3 months, there are several crucial documents you'll need to gather:

  1. Visa fee receipt: Confirm your payment of the visa application fee.

  2. Visa application form (1419): Fill out this form completely, providing your answers and signature.

  3. Personal data processing authorization: Submit a written consent form authorizing the processing of your personal data.

  4. Color photograph: Submit a color photo measuring 45mm x 35mm, taken on a white background within 6 months prior to your application date.

  5. Passport requirements: Your passport should meet several criteria, including:

    • Personal signature of the owner
    • One blank page for visa stamping
    • Validity covering your entire trip duration
    • Any questionable entries should be explained
    • If presenting a new passport, submit the old one, or copies of its pages. If not possible, provide the numbers and visas present in the old passport, along with reasons for not submitting it.
  6. National passport copies: Include copies of all pages and entries of your national passport.

  7. Proof of connection to home country and financial stability:

    • Employment certificate with contact information, seals, and signatures from superiors, stating job position, employment date, monthly income, and assurance of job retention during your trip
    • Brief description of your company's operations in English
    • For company founders, submit copies of the Company's Charter and Founders Agreement
    • Information and promotional materials showing your company's activities
    • Copies of property ownership documents
    • Proof of financial resources: tax inspection documents, credit card photocopies, bank account or credit limit statement
    • Marriage certificate photocopy

For students applying for a study or educational visa to Australia, you'll need a letter from your educational institution confirming your student status and right to study throughout your absence. If your study period exceeds 4 weeks, a complete medical examination is required.

If a minor below 18 years is traveling with a parent or third party, a notarized consent from the other parent is required, along with passport information of the accompanying adult. The consent should mention the travel country and duration.

If a student or their parents have different last names, provide copies of all name change certificates, marriage/divorce documents, translated into English and notarized.

  1. Birth certificates: Include photocopies of birth certificates for all your children, regardless of whether they're traveling with you.

  2. Documentation for housewives, unemployed, pensioners, and students:

    • Sponsorship letter: Notarized document from a person financing the trip, showing the intention to fund the applicant's stay in Australia
    • Employment certificate for the sponsor
    • Copy of the student's certificate for students, retirement certificate for pensioners, and a certificate from school for school students
    • If the pensioner is over 75 years old, provide medical insurance covering the entire stay in Australia.

Ensure you've prepared all necessary documents for a smooth visa application process, whether you're applying for a tourist, student, or educational visa to Australia.

Long-term courses from 3 months

To apply for a long-term student visa to Australia, which lasts for 3 months or longer, the following documents are necessary:

  1. Passport: Present the original, which should be valid for at least 6 months from the start of your trip.

  2. Color photos: Provide two passport-sized photographs.

  3. Employment certificate: For the parent who is financing the trip, present an employment certificate. This document should include information on their income, job position, length of employment, company address, and contact number. It doesn't require translation into English.

  4. Sponsor letter: Submit a letter from the sponsor, written freely in English, along with a copy of their passport. No notarization is necessary.

  5. Bank statement: Demonstrate proof of adequate funds for living and studying in Australia for the duration of your trip. A sum of at least 20,000 Australian dollars per year on the bank card is necessary, covering the cost of round-trip air tickets and tuition.

  6. Student ID or employment certificate: If you're a student, submit a copy of your student ID card or employment certificate to the embassy. No translation is required.

  7. Education documents: For students enrolled in an Australian institution for long-term studies, notarized copies of all education documents translated into English are mandatory. Without these, a visa for study in Australia won't be issued.

  8. School certificate: For school students, a certificate from the school is necessary.

  9. IELTS certificate: If you're enrolled in an Australian university for higher education, an IELTS certificate is required.

  10. Certificates of name change, marriage or divorce: If a student applying for a student visa to Australia or their parents have different surnames, or if the student has their own family, all notarized and translated copies of certificates indicating name changes, marriage or divorce are required.

  11. Parental consent: If the student is underage, notarized consent from both parents for independent travel, along with a notarized copy of the birth certificate in English, is necessary.

  12. Medical examination: Complete a medical examination.

  13. Course admission confirmation: A copy or original document confirming admission to your study course. If applying for a long-term study visa, the visa for study in Australia will cover the entire course duration.

  14. Medical insurance: Acquire appropriate medical insurance coverage.

In addition, it's recommended to submit:

  • All previous passports or copies of old visas
  • Certificates on English language study
  • Letter from your employer

Remember to properly gather and organize all these documents when applying for a long-term student or educational visa to Australia.
