What advice do you have for potential applicants before applying to US universities?

Choose a university that really suits you - do not try to "adjust" yourself to a prestigious or ranked university. If you are not sure of your capabilities, do not dwell on the first top 10: believe me, many opportunities of less prestigious universities will be able to give you what you need to develop and become a specialist.

Every year thousands of applicants from around the world decide to enter the US higher education institutions, but this process involves certain difficulties in the language, the organization of the education system, a new environment for themselves, society, and way of life. Especially for international students, INTO University of South Florida operates the International Year One program, which is an adaptation course for the first semester of undergraduate studies in various fields. For admission, you must have a diploma of completed school education and a certain level of language - the duration of studying depends on it. The great advantage of the program is that students do not lose time and immediately after the completion of International Year One they pass to the chosen specialty of the bachelor degree (the next semester in the order). There are 9 directions in total:

  • Architecture:
  • Visual and Performing Arts
  • Business
  • Computer science and engineering
  • Education
  • Engineering
  • Liberal Arts
  • Natural Sciences and Health Sciences.

Studying in each of the areas includes:

  • English academic language. Participants in 3 and 2-semester programs are intensively engaged in the development of English language skills. Classes are conducted by highly qualified specialists who have many years of experience working with foreign students. Classes are conducted around the main sections of linguistics: grammar, writing, speaking, listening. By the end of studying, the level of language is significantly increased.
  • Skills of career development. Special seminars are held to develop employment and career development skills. Classes include: advising on the organization of the labour market in the US and other countries of the world, the process of finding a job, compiling a resume and passing an interview, the first steps in a career and other issues. These classes provide students with significant assistance in the process of the forthcoming search for their "own" place of work and climbing the career ladder.
  • Skills of university education. One of the conditions for a successful learning process in the US is the mastery of the methods and methodology of study and research, which is why special classes embedded in subject modules are sent (in some cases, they can be taught separately) and encompassing the study of a number of skills that help to become real and motivated students and researchers.
  • Academic disciplines. This group includes a wide range of subjects in the chosen area of study. In fact, these are the same subjects that freshmen undergraduate students study.

All classes are conducted in small groups, which allows each student to work with teachers individually. All university teachers have exceptionally high qualifications and academic degrees, and are able to create a cozy and friendly atmosphere. In addition, all participants can count on round the clock assistance and support from the staff of the University for everyday and educational matters. Centers for work with foreign students and other units regularly hold special events aimed at their adaptation and involvement in university-wide life.

After successfully completing the studies at the International Year One, students pass to the chosen bachelor's degree for the next semester (for example, the participants of the 2-semester program pass to the 3rd semester of the Bachelor's program, and the participants of the semester program for the 2 semester).

Each program is evaluated in credits, which must be earned. Upon graduation, a master's degree is assigned in a specific field of science.
  • Accelerated: include bachelor's + master's degree (Accelerated Degree Programs). Students enrolling in accelerated studying, first complete the bachelor's degree, and then immediately go to the magistracy. In comparison with the usual system, this takes not 6 years (4 + 2 years) but 5 (3 + 2 or 4 + 1). These programs allow you to get two degrees in sequence - bachelor and master in the same or related areas.
  • Dual Specialization (Dual Degree Programs). The programs are designed for those who want to significantly expand their competence and professional-labour skills. Students receive at once two master's degrees, which complement each other; studying is very intense.
  • Certificates (Graduate Certificates). Students can pass special courses with the assignment of certificates (more than 160 varieties). Certificates expand the level of education, help to acquire additional knowledge or to re-qualify.

Teaching staff of the University consists entirely of highly qualified specialists, most of which have higher academic degrees and are widely recognized as outstanding researchers and innovators. Students study a complex of disciplines and subjects, are engaged in scientific activity, pass professional studying in prestigious companies and organizations.

Graduates receive a diploma of the established pattern and are awarded a master's degree in the relevant field of science (after programs of dual specialization - two master's degrees). The level of preparation in the Master's program allows the masters to achieve significant successes in labour and professional activity, to open their own business, to conduct serious scientific research, and to continue their studies by entering the doctoral department.

Review about INTO University of South Florida

Vitaliy Denisovich
(11.03.2023)
I studied here for a bachelor's degree program in business management. There were no doubts about the choice of the university. USF is probably the most popular option in South Florida if you're not chasing tops. I did not consider the tops, because I cannot call myself a brilliant student from the point of view of study. In addition, USF was recommended by many acquaintances and curators at the NordBroward school, where I studied. I've always liked USF for its ratio of academics to student life. But among my acquaintances there were those who chose the latter and then had a lot of problems with closing debts on modules. Therefore, here you need to be able to combine. Teachers and staff usually meet halfway and are ready to help, but outright truants are very disliked here.

I want to leave my feedback about the Faculty of Mathematics, as there is an opinion among the people that USF is more about the fun life of students. I studied in the bachelor's course for 4 years, and I can say that, as far as the exact sciences are concerned, the university is taught at a serious and high level. Most people who study mathematics study physics or engineering at the same time. Classes are held in one of the oldest buildings on campus. On the one hand, it's cool, on the other hand, there were interruptions with WI-FI. The university is very intensively engaged in research in the field of science, and the program itself at the Faculty of Mathematics is quite complex. The teachers are really experts and are well versed in their fields. However, some teachers explain the material too difficult in my opinion.

I love my university very much. I did a bachelor's degree in management and now I am studying for a master's degree in the same direction. What amazes me most here is the diversity of students and teachers. There are a lot of students and teachers from all over the world at my faculty. And it really gives a unique experience of communicating with people with different backgrounds. The campus is beautiful, I got used to its size for probably six months, at first I was constantly lost)

At USF, I studied at the Faculty of Economics. I graduated from the bachelor's program 2 years ago. I first learned about this university when I came to an educational exhibition organized by smapse. There I met the manager Elena L, who told me about the process of enrolling in a university for foreign students after a Russian school. As a result, I entered through the Pathway from INTO, since my level of English at that time was insufficient. I really liked the preparatory program, and I am glad that I went to it before admission, since in the first year after the preparation it was really easy for me to study. USF has a really cool campus, it's a real student city, where students move between university buildings by bus. The campus has absolutely everything. You don't have to go to the city at all if you need something. I usually only went out on weekends.
