The University of Sheffield's outstanding academic reputation, ranked among the top 100 universities in the world, attracts the best students, faculty and researchers from around the world. The International Training Center operating under it makes it possible to successfully overcome the difficulties and problems associated with studying abroad, in particular those related to the insufficient level of English proficiency, lack of academic writing skills, skills necessary for independent study.

International Foundation Year

  • Age – 17+;
  • Duration – 2 semesters;
  • The language of instruction is English.

The International Preparatory Year will provide you with the necessary level of preparation for a successful study at the University of Sheffield. This is an intensive program lasting 1.5 or 2 semesters, designed specifically to provide you with a pathway to earning a bachelor's degree at a university. After completing the program and earning the necessary grades, you can enroll in the first year of your chosen bachelor's degree at the university.

Basic courses give students a number of benefits, including:

  • Acquisition of academic skills necessary for training at the undergraduate level;
  • Improving the level of English required for admission to the university;
  • Development of learning skills, such as essay writing and research;
  • Adaptation to the UK education system;
  • Preparation for university life.

Three main areas are available:

  • Business, Social Sciences and Humanities (as preparation for a bachelor's degree at the Faculty of Social Sciences, including the School of Management and the School of Law);
  • Stomatology;
  • Science and Technology (as the first stage for admission to the Bachelor's degree at the Faculty of Engineering or the Faculty of Natural Sciences of the University of Sheffield).

The program includes academic disciplines, educational skills and preparation for the English language. The course has been designed for international students and adapted to give students the skills and knowledge needed to earn a bachelor's degree.

Pre-Master's

  • Age – 20+;
  • Duration – 2 semesters;
  • The language of instruction is English.

The Pre-Masters programme at the University of Sheffield International College offers international students the preparation to enter a Master's programme. This is an intensive program for 1,5 or 2 semesters. After successful completion of the program and the necessary certification, the student can enroll in the chosen postgraduate program at the university.

Training in Pre-Masters has a number of advantages:

  • Development of knowledge gained during undergraduate studies;
  • Improving career prospects;
  • Improvement of language and cultural skills;
  • Communication with colleagues from all over the world.

The University of Sheffield's International Study Centre offers 2 Pre-Masters programme options:

  • Business, Social Sciences and Humanities (as a preliminary stage before postgraduate studies at the Faculty of Social Sciences, including the School of Management and the School of Law);
  • Science and technology (as a preparatory stage of postgraduate studies at the Faculty of Engineering or Natural Sciences).

The course includes academic subjects and an intensive course in English. The modules are adapted to provide the student with the opportunity to focus on the academic areas most important for their chosen degree. The course is designed specifically to prepare the student for master's studies at the university.

English language preparation courses

  • Age – 17+;
  • Duration – 1 semester;
  • The language of instruction is English.

An option for additional training in English, allowing you to improve your knowledge of English before entering one of the preparatory programs. The duration of your course and the start date will depend on your level of English proficiency and when the applicant expects to start studying as part of the Foundation or Pre-Masters.

The course is available online or face-to-face on campus.

Regardless of the chosen course, students:

  • They will have the opportunity to study an English course designed specifically to facilitate an academic career.

Accommodation, meals, prices

The study center offers several dormitory options within walking distance of the campus. Along with university-run dormitories, you can rent your own accommodation.

The basic dormitory of the training center is St Vincent's Place (this is the only accommodation option for people under 18 years of age). The residence is located in the heart of the city, close to the main campus and next to the International Study Center. This newest residential complex, managed by the University of Sheffield, includes an ensemble of a reconstructed church that is used as a place for socializing, a cafeteria, a cinema and concert hall, a games room, as well as sleeping and administrative rooms.

Students are accommodated in block-type apartments, including fully furnished rooms with a bathroom, necessary equipment and furniture. They have access to:

  • Shared kitchen;
  • Social spaces, including a games room and a cinema hall;
  • Bicycle parking;
  • Access to high-speed Wi-Fi throughout the territory;
  • Laundry service;
  • Music room.

The cost of living in a hostel = £ 146.44 per week.

Enrolment process

  • Submission of the application; in case of an affirmative decision - familiarization with the letter-proposal;
  • Providing the necessary documents (including a copy of your general civil passport, English language test and all qualified academic certificates);
  • Confirmation of the application and payment of the required fees.

To be enrolled in the International Study Centre at the University of Sheffield, applicants must meet the minimum academic requirements and pass the English language entrance exams.

Scholarships University of Sheffield International Study Centre

  • Scholarship for Academic Excellence

The University of Sheffield's International Study Centre offers scholarships of up to £5,000 for students enrolled in the International Preparatory Year and demonstrating outstanding academic achievement.

Scholarships are awarded only to self-funded students and are deducted from tuition fees.

Scholarships should be requested at the time of application, are subject to availability and are provided by the training centre at the discretion of the administration. The offer does not apply to the programs of the International Preparatory Year in Dentistry and advanced training programs.

  • Scholarships for the best students of international colleges

Each year, the University of Sheffield awards the 18 most successful students of the International Study Centre a scholarship of £1,000 for each year of study, subject to the achievement of a minimum average score.

This scholarship is cumulative and therefore can be awarded in addition to other scholarships.

Recommendations on when to apply
