Founded in 1889 as New Mexico's leading institution, the University of New Mexico today occupies nearly 800 acres near the old Highway 66 in the heart of Albuquerque, a metropolitan area of more than 500,000 people. Albuquerque is a mixture of cultures, cuisines, styles, stories, people, hobbies, panoramas – from the majestic mountains in the west, past the shores of the historic Rio Grande to the Sandia Mountains in the east.

The University of New Mexico offers a unique campus environment with an architectural theme of the Pueblo Renaissance: the appearance of the campus echoes nearby Indian villages. Accommodation, meals, prices

University of New Mexico dormitories offer three different styles in the dormitory: traditional, suite, apartment. Common rooms are designed for co-education, all rooms, suites and apartments are distributed among same-sex residents.

The traditional UNM dormitory forms a strong sense of community, has a unique floor layout, a friendly atmosphere that makes it easy to make new friends, create study groups to participate in fun activities. The suites are located in Laguna, DeVargas Suites (LDV), recently renovated buildings. Each suite consists of a combination of 1-2-bed rooms with shared bathrooms, seating up to six people, offering a little more privacy than traditional rooms, while maintaining the feeling of a large community.  The buildings have large common areas with a fully equipped kitchen, laundry room where you can meet friends, cook food, wash clothes at the same time.

The apartments offer fully furnished single rooms with equipped kitchen, dining room, living room.

Facilities and equipment at University of New Mexico

Libraries, museums, galleries, halls for performances are rich cultural resources of the educational institution. The University Arena, or "Pit" is one of the most famous, recognizable buildings of college basketball. In fact, The Pit ranked 5th by travel channel as one of the best places for basketball in college.

The professional staff and student leaders of the Outdoor Adventure Center strive to make recreation accessible to all UNM students, staff, and faculty. The university offers a diverse range of opportunities for recreation, learning in the fresh air, creates a safe, supportive environment in which participants can come together to learn about nature, themselves, create a stronger community.

Johnson Center offers a full-size Olympic pool, a 6-lane pool of 25 yards, and a therapeutic pool. These facilities are suitable for a variety of activities, including swimming on paths, circles, water fitness.

Entry requirements, how to apply, what is required to enrol

Requirements for applicants for bachelor's degree:

  • Freshmen can start their studies in the summer, fall or spring after graduating from high school. While most students apply for admission to the fall semester (courses begin in August), some enrolled students will need to start their studies in the summer after graduating from high school.
  • Application form – submit the application before the priority review date, use the online application for a faster response.
  • The application fee is $25.

Requirements for admission to the magistracy:

  • Statement of Intent – must include areas of interest, previous courses you have attended in recent years to prepare for the study program
  • Three letters of recommendation
  • Current GRE points are not older than 3 years at the time of application, and for international students - current TOEFL or IELTS points
  • CV (curriculum vitae or resume, including current contact information)
  • Extracts from each higher education institution that the applicant attended.

Requirements for knowledge of English:

  • Internet-based TOEFL – 79
  • IELTS – 6.5
  • Pearson Test in English – 53
  • Cambridge CAE or CPE – C.

Scholarships University of New Mexico

The right to receive a scholarship is granted to students who meet the following requirements:

  • Be a regular student at UNM's main campus
  • Have a total of at least 12 UNM main campus program credits received by the end of the fall semester.
  • Have a high cumulative GPA.
  • Register, earn 12 credits each semester on the main UNM campus in the upcoming academic year.
