The University of Lorraine was founded on January 1, 2012 as a result of the merger of universities and colleges by Henri Poincaré, Nancy 2 (1572 year of creation) and Paul Verlaine. The educational institution is considered the main university in the region, therefore its main goal is to popularize scientific activities among young people on the basis of a symbiosis of theory and practice.

The University of Lorraine has developed a powerful international strategy:
