The University of Colorado Summer is one of the most actively developing and illustrative in terms of celebrity graduates camp at US universities: among the graduates of the University of Colorado are two state governors, two members of the Supreme Court, 11 Nobel laureates and 11 astronauts. The camp, represented by Columbia University, is one of 8 representatives of the oldest universities in the Ivy League, which offers preparatory programs for entering colleges and universities and is favorably located in a picturesque location at the foot of the Colorado Rocky Mountains. Learning in the camp helps future students to obtain the necessary academic knowledge and psychologically prepare for the transition from high school to the university. High-quality educational program is combined with an active sports development and a rich entertainment program. Over 53 years of work in the camp, thousands of students from more than 70 countries have been learned.

STEM Research Experience (Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics)

  • 14-18 years old
  • Dates: June 30 - July 27
  • Duration: 4 weeks.

The intensive program is aimed at the development of high motivation of high school students in research in the fields of STEM at the university level. The work of each mentor, including teachers of the CU-Voulder faculties, as well as his graduates, consists of conducting joint work with 1-2 students based on the principle of research and development. A student under the guidance and with the help of a mentor works on an individual project for 30-40 hours a week from Monday to Friday, after selecting a topic from the following disciplines:

  • Environmental sciences
  • Genomics.

Twice a week, students take part in seminars conducted by teachers at the University of Colorado to assist with research projects. In the course of learning, literary reviews are studied on the course, library sources, archives, analytical information, etc. are used. The work on the project is completed by its defense, which consists in presenting the work to groupmates, mentors and teachers of the university, and the latter make the final assessment decision.

STEM Academies

The program of choice is represented by courses in 9 disciplines, including:

  1. Aerospace, Aeronautics and Astronomy is a 2 or 4 week program aimed at understanding the basics of aerospace design, aircraft design and related sciences. This course includes the study of modern experience through lectures by invited experts, visits to the special laboratory CU's Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics (LASP).
  2. Artificial Intelligence & Data Mining Session is a 2-week program that studies the essence of the work of artificial intelligence by processing large arrays in computer databases using the example of Netflix, Amazon.com, etc.
  3. Robotics - 2 week course with interactive communication with robots, observing them in action: Cublets, Sphero, Dot, Dash, RedBot. We study the software mechanisms that trigger the movement of robots, then the listener of the course develops the design and constructs his own robot, which you can keep for yourself.
  4. Med Science and Research - a course of 2 weeks, during which topics are addressed in the field of biotechnology. Lectures, seminars, research work in laboratories are held, students are taught to think critically in the process of research, to determine the accuracy of data sources used for work, to interpret them and to conduct experiments.
  5. Neuroscience is a 2-week program aimed at studying topics such as sensory, learning and remembering, behavior, studying mental processes, brain work through neuroscience, psychology and cognitive science.
  6. Explore Engineering is a 4-week program that studies fundamental engineering concepts of mechanical, structural, and electrical engineering, design cycles, and its own project development.
  7. Microbiology - 2 weeks, students learn the basics of synthetic biology, microbiological systems, metabolic connections, etc. Experiments are conducted with bacteria, PCR technology and innovative gene decoding experience using CRISPR are being studied.
  8. Maker Technologies - the duration of 2 weeks, during which students learn and practically use 3D-programming and 3D printers. We study how such disciplines as technology, engineering, art, etc. can be used in one practical science.
  9. Video Game Design - 2 weeks of practical studying on the design and programming of functional, interactive video games. The course presents the basics of programming, software development materials and design skills.

Accommodation, meals, prices

The paid price of each University of Colorado Summer program includes accommodation in a double room with shared bathroom, air conditioning, access to Wi-Fi, meals in the local dining room - 3 meals a week on weekdays, 2 one-time weekend. The portions in the dining room are not limited: the menu includes vegetarian, vegan, kosher dishes, as well as gluten-free food (meals outside the campus are charged separately). For walks at the disposal of students, the entire campus area, as well as the home area (home zones) are the areas adjacent to the campus where it is allowed to be in groups.

Any foreign student between the ages of 14-18 can become a participant in the pre-college educational program. After pre-payment and paperwork, the student must arrive at the University of Colorado Summer not earlier than the appointed day: in case of earlier arrival, there is no place to stay, you must book a hotel or hotel room yourself.
