Undergraduate

  • Age of students: from 17 years old
  • Dates: start of study in September / January
  • Duration of the program: 3-4 years.

The undergraduate program at the University of Bedfordshire, as in other universities, is designed for graduates of schools who want to pursue higher education. On different specialties there can be different number of hours of study, which are measured in credits (1 ECTS credit = 25-30 academic hours). To obtain a bachelor's degree, a student needs at least 180 credits for the entire period of study. Thus, the time of study at the first stage of higher education takes 3-4 years (or 5-6 years in law and medical specialties).

All bachelor's degrees are divided into several types depending on the specialization - in Britain this is Bachelor of Arts (BA), which is awarded to virtually all disciplines and is of a mostly theoretical nature, and Bachelor of Science (BSc) provides studying of both theory and practice.

On a bachelor's degree, students have much more freedom than at school: here they form their own program, choosing subjects themselves + 3-4 compulsory disciplines. At the end of the course, young people pass a certification exam on them.

Master's Courses (Postgraduate)

  • Age of students: from 18 years old
  • Dates: start of study in September / January
  • Duration of the program: 1-2 years.

The master's program is the second stage of higher education. The educational course in this case can be aimed at obtaining a practical part for a particular specialty, or for research activities. Students of the course should know the methodology of receiving and processing scientific information, and also have an impressive scientific base.

Obtaining a master's degree takes from one to two years, and gives its holder additional opportunities for career growth. It is believed that a specialist with a master's degree has sufficient skills to occupy a managerial position, unlike an employee with only the first level of higher education. Also this degree is necessary for the construction of the teacher's career.

In order to enroll in a master's program at a university, a candidate must have a diploma of higher education.
