Writer James Michener called the University of Texas campus "the most beautiful campus from Mississippi to Stanford." The university is located in the western part of the state in the South Plain region. The campus is built in the Spanish Renaissance style, and its highlight is the system of artificial pools and reservoirs. There are three major cities near the campus - Dallas, Houston and Austin.
