The Northern Academy of the Arts (NAA) is a private art institution that prepares its students for college.

Education is conducted in four areas:

  • Dance

The independent school in NYC  presents more than 130 courses, 80 electives. Students are taught in small classes with an approximate ratio of students to teacher: 7: 1. About 75% of the teaching staff have academic degrees of doctors of science, certification of the laureate of prizes. After graduation from the NAA, students enter the leading universities of the United States and nearby countries: New York University, Trinity College, Bard College, Cleveland Institute of Music, etc.

Summer Camp

  • Students age: 11-17 years.

The summer camp will give children an amazing, memorable, exciting vacation full of fun, relaxation and outdoor games, complemented by useful STEM disciplines and weekend trips/excursions. The summer course will help you escape from smartphones and other gadgets, focusing on outdoor recreation, music, sports, dancing and chatting with new friends. Young students will develop independence and self-reliance, teamwork and leadership skills, creative problem solving.

Academic lessons are conducted from Monday to Friday, 1 lesson = 50 minutes, the ratio of teachers to students is 1: 6.

Residence

  • Children live on the school grounds, boys and girls live separately. The rooms are designed for 2-4 people: tables, beds, chests of drawers, wardrobe are prepared for each pupil; The windows of the rooms offer a beautiful landscape. Bathrooms are provided with toiletries and cosmetics.
  • All children around the clock, 24/7 are under the care of professional teachers, educators and administrators.
  • In general access, students have kitchen areas with a refrigerator, microwaves and other appliances,
  • WiFi and computer equipment are available for everyone,
  • There is a laundry room.

Extracurricular activities and entertainment

Children in their free academic studies are waiting for numerous classes that will allow them to express themselves, find new friends and learn something new:

On Saturdays, a big Talent Concert is arranged, to which relatives and friends of vacationers can come: all children will show what they have learned during the camp shift!

Schedule

A typical day begins with a rise at 7 am, breakfast at 8 am. Classes start at 9:00 (three sessions), followed by lunch (around 13:00). Dinner is calculated at 18:00, until that time there is an opportunity to visit a variety of clubs and communities of interest. Quiet time and lights out - from 21:30.

Day camp (without accommodation) and online summer programs are available upon request.

Accommodation, meals, prices

NAA provides dormitories to those students who take courses in full board mode, i.e. stay in the institution around the clock. Residential buildings divide students on the basis of gender. The buildings are equipped with rooms for several residents, common kitchens, showers and toilets, laundries. Their counselors live in the buildings together with the students.

Local kitchens are staffed by chefs with all sorts of culinary awards. With round-the-clock accommodation, pupils of the school are provided with three meals a day: breakfast, lunch, dinner. On request, it is possible to agree on an individual menu, choose meat or vegetarian dishes. Every day students are provided with fresh vegetables, fruits, homemade cakes.

Activities Northern Academy of the Arts

Student clubs provide forums for communication, development of leadership skills through consultations, seminars, round tables, conferences.

Currently, the school has a Student Council, more than two dozen student clubs:

  • Cooking Club
  • Board Games Club, Chess
  • Yoga, Meditation Community
  • National sports teams.

Students enroll in their chosen clubs at the beginning of each semester. Students are encouraged to participate in excursions, special school events: basketball tournament, dance competitions, musical performances, table tennis tournament, social work to clean the city, provide food for low-income families, etc.

Thanks to excursions, students can visit the largest planetarium in the northern hemisphere, the Metropolitan Museum of Manhattan, the show in Carnegie Hall and Central Park, the nearest mountain ranges, waterfalls, participate in tourist trips to the Catskills in New York.

Every year the school organizes parties for Christmas, Thanksgiving, Chinese New Year, accompanied by a variety of food, games, performances.

Every weekend, students have the opportunity to go to shopping centers, bowling, cinema, as well as use school premises for independent practice, rehearsals.

Facilities and equipment at Northern Academy of the Arts

The Academy campus is located in Middletown in the Hudson River Valley. This area is considered a national heritage, one of the 20 best natural places in the world. From the campus you can reach Harriman State Park in 30 minutes, to New York - in 1.5 hours.

For all four destinations on campus there are many places:

  • Dance studios of various specializations: ballet, Chinese dance, ballroom dancing, etc.

  • Computer classes for graphics, design, scientific projects
  • Music studios with a set of instruments, musical notations, acoustic materials, etc.
  • Scientific modern STEM laboratories for the design of robots, flying drones, 3D modeling.

A health centre providing medical care is located on site.

The NAA campus is under round-the-clock video surveillance, which guarantees complete peace of mind.

At the institution there is a summer camp for children from 9 to 18 years old. The list of summer programs includes:

  • Robotics, three-dimensional modeling, computer programming

  • Chess, preparation for Olympiads, standard exams.

Students can attend the camp with a shift in June-July or July-August. The daily schedule consists of physical educayion , nutrition, thematic classes, excursions.

Admission dates and extra charges

The NAA teaches students in grades 6 to 12 where:

  • Grades 6-8 – Intermediate Level
  • Grades 9-12 – high school.

You can study at the institution in the formats of online, day visits or boarding. The stages of study are measured in credits, where one credit is equal to 180 minutes of class per week, 108 hours of a one-year course. The total number of credits required to graduate from high school is 31.5.

Academically successful NAA students can take a course as an extern or with additional study of advanced material.

The annual fee includes:

  • Full-time form: eduaction, lunches

  • Homestay: tuition, lunches, accommodation in a host family with a meal plan (additionally will cost $ 8,000-11,000).

In January, open days, excursions around the campus are held. Applications are accepted until January 15.

To enter the NAA, you must provide:
