The history of the university began in 1946: initially, the educational institution was referred to as the Technical Institute of Lakehead. The university itself received the status of a university only in 1965, after almost 20 years.

• Off-Campus Housing, a home-based accommodation service located at Lakehead University. The service helps to find the ideal accommodation off-campus for international students: a rented apartment, a house or just a room.
