The U.S. secondary education system has several important differences from foreign schools. One of them is in the number of years that children spend in school.
Elementary School – Grades 1-5
Primary schools accept children over 6 years of age. For the first five years, one teacher works with children, who teaches them the main school subjects - writing, reading, arithmetic + individual teachers of music, drawing, physical education.
High School – Grades 6-9
The secondary school consists of two stages - Middle School (grades 6-8) and Junior High School (grades 7-9). American students can choose elective subjects, but compulsory disciplines (English, mathematics, history, art) have the greatest weight.
High School – Grades 10-12
Students 13-14 years old go to high school, where they spend three years, and focus on the study of specialized subjects and actively prepare for the university.
