Glasgow School of English is an English language school in the centre of Glasgow, Scotland's largest and busiest city. The school was founded in 1997 and has recently been renovated to offer students comfortable, modern classrooms with improved technology and learning facilities. Glasgow School is fully accredited to international standards and is approved as a licensed sponsor of UK Visa & Immigration.

Examination Preparation Courses: IELTS

  • Age — from 16 years old,
  • The duration of training is from 1 week to 1 year or more.

The IELTS exam preparation course is divided into 2 separate programs:

  • IELTS Academic Foundation Basic Course.This group course covers all four skills tested: speaking, listening, reading and writing. It is suitable for people who have already received a grade of 5.0 and want to improve their group score, or for those who have never taken a test but have an equivalent level. The minimum entry requirement for this course is level I(CEFR B1).
  • IELTS Academic Preparation Course. It is suitable for people who have already received a score of 6.0 and want to improve their group result, or for those who have never taken a test before but have an equivalent level. The minimum entry requirement for this course is Upper intermediate (CEFR B2).

Examination Preparation Courses: Trinity

  • Age – from 7 years old,
  • The duration of training is from 1 week to 1 year or more.

The Trinity Exam Preparation Course has two levels of preparation:

  • GESE 2 (beginner level). This is the preparation of students for the 2nd grade exam. The results of this exam can be used in applying for a UK Spouse/Partner Visa (FLR) (M) and a Dependent Parent visa (FLR) (O) application.
  • GESE 5 (intermediate). This is the preparation of students for the 2nd grade exam. The results of this exam can be used to apply for indefinite leave to reside and obtain British citizenship.

Examination Preparation Courses: TOEIC

  • Age — from 18 years old,
  • The duration of training is from 1 week to 1 year or more.

The Test of English for International Communication (TOEIC) is an internationally recognized exam designed to test the day-to-day English language skills of people who use English in their workplace and in an international environment.

There are two separate TOEIC tests:

  • The Listening and Reading Test allows you to prove your level of English proficiency in the global job market.
  • Successful completion of the Speaking and Writing Test provides an independent assessment of oral and written English language skills, which are becoming increasingly important in today's competitive global job market.

Accommodation, meals, prices

Glasgow School provides its students with three accommodation options:

  1. Homestay: Students have the opportunity to live with an English-speaking family, allowing them to immerse themselves in the local culture and traditions of Scotland and the UK. All host families are carefully vetted by the school. Meals may be provided separately, depending on individual preferences and arrangements.

  2. Buchanan View Hotel: This is a modern residential complex with 24/7 security and reception services. Each apartment is fully furnished and consists of five bedrooms, each with an en-suite bathroom. The hotel offers clean and comfortable accommodation for students at a budget-friendly price. It is located in the city center, approximately a 15-20 minute walk from the school.

  3. Dobbies Point Hotel: This accommodation option features three modern blocks, also with 24/7 security and reception services. Each apartment is fully furnished and consists of 3-4 bedrooms, each with its own bathroom. Similar to Buchanan View, Dobbies Point Hotel provides clean and comfortable student accommodation in the city center, approximately a 15-minute walk from the school.

Activities Glasgow School of English

The administration of Glasgow School prepares a variety of social activities and excursions: this includes visits to local museums and art galleries, ceilidh evenings, where students can learn Scottish dances. The school also organizes trips for students to picturesque places in Scotland, game nights and bowling.

Facilities and equipment at Glasgow School of English

The school is located in the heart of Glasgow city centre, just a two-minute walk from the main shopping and leisure districts of Souchiehall Street and Buchanan Street. Within walking distance of the school, there are a huge number of places to eat and drink, for all tastes and budgets. A five-minute walk from the school are major cinemas, the Film Theatre and the Theatre Royal, which is the birthplace of Scottish ballet. Opposite the Theatre Royal is the Glasgow Piping Centre, where you can learn to play the traditional Scottish bagpipes.

The Glasgow School building accommodates:

  • 9 modern and bright classrooms: Each classroom is equipped with Smart TVs that can be used in conjunction with laptops, iPads and students' own devices.
  • Computer area with 8 computers that provide students with free internet access.
  • Student recreation area with comfortable furniture.

In addition, the school has a self-study library, CDs and DVDs for students to use in self-study.

Newspapers and magazines are regularly brought to the school, with the help of which students can  improve their English.

The maximum capacity of the school is 135 students. The maximum number of classes for group classes is 16, with an average of 12 students per class.

Admission dates and extra charges

English language courses are held all year round, so the school has a continuous enrollment system. A student can start their studies on any Monday except Easter Monday and two weeks on Christmas and New Year's Day. If a student is sick and needs to take sick leave, then there is an option to join their class online until they can return to school.

Enrolment process

The application process includes the following steps:

  • Full personal and contact details,
  • Course selection and start date,
  • Is a visa required, if so, what type of visa,
  • Is the airport transfer service and arrival information required,
  • Is accommodation required for the duration of the stay,
  • Acceptance of the booking conditions,
  • Payment of the relevant deposit,
  • Payment of any other fees (transfer, accommodation).

Within 24 hours, the school will confirm the application. Before confirmation, the applicant will be sent an email with a link to take an online test to determine the level of preparation - this test will help the admissions committee to assign the student to the right class upon arrival at the school.

Once all procedures have been completed, Glasgow School will send a confirmation email of acceptance and booking.

Entry requirements, how to apply, what is required to enrol

The main requirement for applicants is the language level. Each Glasgow School course has restrictions on the level of English proficiency, so it is important for the applicant to carefully review the conditions for admission to the chosen course of study.

The second requirement is the age limit: the minimum age for admission is 16 years.
