Ewell Castle School is a private school that offers programs for students from 3 to 18 years old. Students of both genders learn together, creating a diverse, friendly community for academic and personal development.

Ewell Castle School was founded in 1926 as a segregated boarding school, and only by 2015 began to accept both boys and girls. Now the school is considered one of the best in North Surrey, has the necessary accreditations and regularly improves approaches to the education of young researchers. The Ewell Castle School campus is special for its location and atmosphere, which is created by the caring and empathetic staff, the rigorous academic program, and the variety of extracurricular activities.

Educational process

Students coming from other countries with insufficient English language skills are offered EAL support courses where they can develop reading, writing, speaking and listening skills, enrich their vocabulary and practice speaking English on a regular basis.

Nursery&Reception, Kindergarten, Early Childhood Education

The Kindergarten and Admissions program focuses on the care of children and their gradual introduction into the academic environment. In a caring and stimulating environment, younger students gain confidence, make new friends, and gain knowledge through play and exploration. 

The friendly, helpful staff have extensive experience in caring for young children and make sure that all of the child's needs are met. The staff at Ewell Castle School believe in spending as much of the day outdoors as possible, so outdoor areas for creative play and discovery are used in the classroom.

The curriculum includes seven areas:

Prep School

Specialised education in primary school begins in the first year and includes the teaching of English, music, physical education and a range of subjects at the introductory level. Pupils in grades 5-6 have the opportunity to attend some of the lessons of high school students, taking advantage of a full-fledged science laboratory, design and technology kits, ICT.  Students in the Preparatory Department can take full advantage of the vast campus area with weekly Forest School lessons that help them explore the world around them and learn valuable life skills.

Children are taught in mixed-ability groups starting in the fourth grade. All teachers support pupils in realising their potential through carefully planned differentiated lessons – pupils are encouraged to become independent, to choose their own tasks.

Senior School, Senior Secondary School

The transition to high school is a big step in every child's life, so the high school program is based on the student's already existing knowledge and abilities, academic goals. The curriculum contains compulsory subjects, the schedule for which is adjusted individually.

The extensive academic program, which is based on EC Skills for the 21st Century, aims to nurture and acquire the skills needed in today's world, to unleash the potential of each student.

The variety of disciplines allows each student to choose the major that they like the most. Among the subjects presented in high school:

Sixth Form Program

  • Age — from 16 years old,
  • The duration of the training is two years.

Sixth Form is a program for graduating 12th and 13th grades that prepares students for the start of university life by studying subjects of interest to them and practicing communicative, leadership, and personal skills.

Students will have to create an individual set of items from the following:

  • Drama
  • Economics

Extracurricular activities (usually on Thursdays) include extensive preparation for careers and higher education: students meet with specialists from different fields, attend conferences and university campuses for trial lectures and preparation of personal statements. 

Students in the 12th grade begin work on entering the university in the spring semester, with the help of teachers and staff of the career department. They are encouraged to gain additional work experience to acquire skills such as teamwork, communication, and commercial literacy that are in demand by employers.

Tennis Academy

Ewell Castle School Tennis Academy is a scholarship program that includes elite-level athletic activities and coaching through an independent school program. 

The tennis program offers a set of intensive workouts designed for students in grades 6-13. The number of hours of classes varies depending on each student's abilities, activities, and goals.  The curriculum includes technical work, tactics and match play, strength and conditioning work. Students are given individual goals, full planning and support for tournaments.  

Currently, Ewell Castle School Tennis Academy is ranked 2nd nationally and is considered one of the best school tennis academies in the  UK.

Cricket Academy

  • Age — from 11 years old.

Ewell Castle School Cricket Academy was established to allow girls and boys aged 11 and over with minimal playing skills to combine intensive cricket training and academic education within an integrated curriculum. 

The infrastructure of Ewell Castle School allows students to gain professional playing skills on equipped courts, indoor halls and rooms for individual training. Students train under the guidance of experienced coaches-active athletes and receive:

  • Weekly group classes,
  • Individual strength and fitness training,
  • Video Performance Analysis,
  • Feedback from the teacher on the pace of the player's development,
  • Flexible academic schedule for each student,

Accommodation, meals, prices

To date, Ewell Castle School does not have its own residences.

The cafeteria, located on campus, offers students daily lunches that include soups and pastries, salads, meats and side dishes, sandwiches, and desserts. The menu is compiled in advance and is available on the website, professional chefs are ready to take into account the individual wishes of students, including medical and religious restrictions. High school students also have access to the café, where breakfast is served daily from 7:50 to 8:20.

Activities Ewell Castle School

When pupils enter school, they are placed in one of four Houses named after local castles: Arundel, Bodiam, Carisbrook and Dover. The House system helps instill a sense of commitment and creates a family atmosphere, allowing children to learn healthy competition and boosting their self-esteem.  Events and competitions are regularly held between the Houses: sports, creative, charitable and scientific.

Ewell Castle School supports the interests of students, promotes the life of student clubs and the opening of new associations. Participating in the club will allow students to find like-minded people and explore a field that interests them, such as design, science, politics, sailing, performing arts, and others.

Every year, sports matches in team games are held on the campus of the educational institution: football, volleyball, rugby, basketball, competitions in individual and pair sports: athletics, tennis, chess and others.

Art occupies an important place in the education of children, so the educational territory of Ewell Castle School is equipped with a large music pavilion for vocal classes, choir, and playing musical instruments. In the neighborhood you can find rooms for rehearsals and performances of drama groups.

Facilities and equipment at Ewell Castle School

The school is located in the village of Ewell, North Surrey, England. Despite the small size of the settlement and its rural surroundings, Ewell Castle School is relatively close to London, Wimbledon, Clapham and other big cities – a bus or train ride will take just over half an hour.

Classrooms, laboratories, computer classes are located in three areas depending on the school stage: primary, middle and high school. The main building of the school is a large castle with a landscaped area, which has preserved its original appearance. The infrastructure of the campus creates the atmosphere of all children's favorite Harry Potter films. The following facilities have been prepared in the educational buildings:

Admission dates and extra charges

The academic year consists of three semesters:

  • Autumn: August-December,
  • Spring: January-April,
  • Summer: April-July.

Most students graduate at the beginning of the summer after passing the final annual exams and tests.

Academic classes take place from Monday to Friday, excluding holidays, national and international holidays. In the second half of weekdays, events are organized: performances, trips, thematic lectures, student clubs.

Enrolment process

Before applying, staff recommend visiting the campus on one of the Open Days.

To enroll in Ewell Castle School, students need to fill out an online application, submit documents, pay application fees, and receive an invitation from the admissions office. Upon arrival at the campus, candidates pass entrance exams:

  • Kindergarten: trial lesson during the day,
  • Preparatory classes: a trial day, during which teachers will unobtrusively assess the child's abilities,
  • High School: entrance exams in core academic subjects,
  • Sixth Form: Interview with the Class Leader.

Applications for admission to primary school are considered on an ongoing basis, with enrollment taking place at the beginning of each semester. The application deadline for middle and high school applications is October 20.

Entry requirements, how to apply, what is required to enrol

For admission to Ewell Castle School programs, you must provide:

  • Personal documents of the child and parents: passport, birth certificate, health insurance, visa or residence permit to study in the UK,
  • School reports for the last two years, assessment certificates.

The level of English is important for comfortable learning and is checked at entrance exams; In case of insufficient knowledge or speaking skills, the candidate is provided with language assistance in the format of the EAL course.

Scholarships are offered to very capable students and those in need of financial support. All 7th grade students who pass the entrance exams are automatically considered for an academic scholarship, so they do not need to apply for it.
