San Diego is an American city with beautiful weather 300 days a year and breathtaking coastal views. Travelers come to San Diego for world famous tourist attractions such as the San Diego Zoo and the beaches, but there is more outside of Pacific Beach. In the diverse neighborhoods of San Diego, you will find unique restaurants, breweries, art galleries, and local boutiques. San Diego is built on top of undeveloped canyons, giving urban districts clear boundaries, interspersing city with open space.

When to go to San Diego

The weather in San Diego is beautiful all year round - expect no off-season here. If you want to avoid large crowds, come in early March or mid September-November. Hotel prices are lower at this time and there are practically no crowds as the children are back at school. June-August is the hottest months of the year and is the peak of tourism.

San Diego landmarks

  • La Jolla California translates to "pearl". With stunning views of the coastline, a beach that hundreds of sea lions and seals claim to be their home, beautiful coves worth discovering - you can easily spend a couple of days here.
  • The Gaslamp Quarter is a lively area in the city center known for its nightlife. There is no shortage of clubs, cocktail bars, dive bars in Gaslamp. Some of the best restaurants in San Diego are located here.
  • Sunset Cliffs is one of the best sunset spots in San Diego. Located on the border of Ocean Beach and Point Loma, this park has beautiful beaches, a hiking trail along the coastline, and stunning cliff views.
  • Harbor Island - A small island near the airport with great views of the city center. It's the perfect spot for a picnic, a stroll, or just relaxing in the evening to watch the city catch on fire.
  • Windandsea San Diego is a beach located in the residential area of La Jolla. Quieter than most San Diego beaches, there is a cute palapa built by surfers back in the 1950s. This is a great place to chase the sunset!
  • La Jolla Shores is a family beach with convenient parking overlooking Scripps Pier and the impressive Torrey Pines cliffs. On a clear day, you can even see hang gliders take off from Torrey Pines Glider Point .
  • Black's Beach is a local surfing paradise. Some parts of the beach are nudist.
  • Tourmaline Beach is a beach located on the border of Pacific Beach and La Jolla; this less touristy beach is popular with surfers. It has beautiful views of the La Jolla coastline, free parking.
  • Coronado San Diego is a family beach located on Coronado Island next to Hotel Del Coronado. Street parking is usually easy to find, unless it's a holiday weekend. Coronado is a great day trip destination: it is a small, charming, family-friendly town with excellent restaurants. Rent a bike to explore the ferry dock, beautiful houses, or socialize on the beach. Don't miss Hotel Del Coronado - it's iconic: the movie Some Like it Hot was filmed here and Marilyn Monroe has been. She is paid homage in a couple of The Del stores. Fun fact: L. Frank Baum wrote his famous novel a stone's throw from the historic Hotel Del Coronado.
  • Old Town San Diego is a state park that recreates the early days of California. Step back in time with vintage shops and authentic Mexican restaurants.
  • The San Diego Zoo is home to over 3,500 animal species. There is a lot of entertainment here, especially for kids. Be sure to ride the Skyfari for stunning views of the park (included in the ticket price).
  • Balboa Park is the heart of San Diego. This park has several museums, a Japanese garden and an organ pavilion that hosts concerts all year round.

Food in San Diego

San Diego is known for sunshine, surfing, and great food. When you have the best weather in the country and perfect beaches, why not complement that with world-class food - from Mexican to Japanese?

  • Burritos - There are hundreds of Mexican restaurants serving the beloved California burrito, but Lucha Libre stands out for two reasons. Firstly, it is the theme of the fight, as well as advance booking 24 hours in advance, which creates a unique atmosphere. This version of the burrito also features shrimp.
  • “Extraordinary Desserts” is one hundred percent dessert perfection. From whole birthday cakes to small cakes, even brownies for breakfast, everything is extraordinary here.
  • Breakfast pie at Snooze AM . What could be better than a fresh pie? Egg pie on top .
  • Korean BBQ by Dae Chang Keum - Usually people pay to have others cook for them, but in Korean BBQ restaurants, you pay to cook your own food. The interactive experience is fun, you will work with different types of grills, learn what cuts of meat and seafood you like. Great for a company!
  • The queue spanning the block at Hash House A Go Go will tell you where excellently cooked classic breakfasts are served with a twist and portions so big that sharing is a must. Sage chicken complements smoked bacon waffles, fried leeks, maple juice, poached eggs. Come on an empty stomach, grab a few friends and your life will change forever.
  • Sushi Ota is voted San Diego's best sushi destination. This sushi combo is just the beginning. If you like adventure, you can try beef sashimi: at the sushi bar you can meet the chef Ota, so you can watch the work of the masters and find out what is new. It is better to book tickets about a month in advance.
  • Up2You Brick Toast - Visit this place to sip milk tea from a stone jug and snack on brick toast. It is a buttery and sweet toast block served with various fillings - ice cream, fruit. Up2You is frequented by local college students and has cool lounges and games.
  • Think the fries are the same? Potatoes fried in melted duck fat for a rich flavor.
  • Burger from Urge Gastro Pub - Come to Urge on Friday nights to sample a variety of beers, unique burgers from an ever-changing assortment, from rabbit and boar to BBQ and Green Goddess. An outdoor veranda with ceiling lights, an indoor dining area and a large bar is open to any company.

Transportation in San Diego

  • Buses are an economical way to get around San Diego, with many lines and routes around. Be sure to check the timetable, plan your itineraries in advance.
  • Waterfront Shuttle - Between Memorial Day and Labor Day weekend, visitors can board the Waterfront Shuttle for an eight-stop ride along the San Diego waterfront from Harbor Island to the South Promenade, near the San Diego Convention Center. The ticket price is $ 3. Shuttles arrive at the stop every 15-20 minutes from 10:00 to 20:00 from Sunday to Thursday, from 10:00 to 22:00 on Fridays and Saturdays.
  • Bicycles are a popular form of transport along the downtown waterfront and Gaslamp Quarter. Tours are also available to provide a unique way to experience the neighborhoods of downtown San Diego.
  • If you are staying in and around downtown San Diego, the famous bright red trolleybus takes you almost anywhere. It provides convenient transportation from key downtown locations including the Santa Fe Depot, the San Diego Convention Center, crossing downtown and reaching locations such as Old Town and Mission Valley.
  • The train is a relaxing, comfortable way to travel outside of San Diego to Los Angeles, Santa Barbara, and the North Pacific coast.
