Bridgewater and Taunton Colleges are an amalgamation of Bridgewater College, Cannington College and Somerset College. The history of Bridgewater College dates back to 1888, when bridgewater School of Art opened on George Street.

The advantage of BTC College is divided into six sections. In the classroom, students focus on their needs and learn what will help them achieve their goal.  The courses combine real-world experience with academic rigor and excellent opportunities for further employment.

Educational process

All full-time students are assigned a personal tutor: he keeps in touch with the parents of students, writes reports and, if necessary, can refer to other specialists.

There is a well-being service on all three campuses, which students can request either in an interview or during college. There is also a professional counseling service, and students can apply for these services through their personal tutors or themselves.

  • Bridgewater campus

It features a new £7.5 million Centre for Advanced Development, which houses a design thinking lab, welding workshops and a composites laboratory designed to support the engineering and aerospace industries.

In recent years, they have invested in other areas of the campus, including the Energy Skills Center, the first of its kind in the Southwest, for the engineering, nuclear and sustainable energy sectors, the McMillan Theater, which seats 350 people, the commercial Beauty Zone and Automotive Center, the Child Care Center, which can accommodate up to 70 children aged six months to four years. A construction center serving all major construction industries, as well as a fitness center and various other sports facilities.

Bachelor's degree in college lasts 3 years. Professional practice is the key to this course, students every year take advantage of employment opportunities and participation in projects. There is an opportunity to learn from invited industry experts in the studios and work closely with industry partners in live briefings and competitions to apply your knowledge and gain real-world experience.

A-Level

  • Age: from 16 to 18 years.

For many students, progressing to the A-Level level is the natural next step in their education after the age of 16 after successfully completing GCSE. BTC offers an A-Level program that includes a wide range of subjects.

During the two years of study, students will receive five and a half hours of classes in each subject per week + one hour per week with a personal tutor/group of tutors. This time is set aside to complete group assignments and network one-on-one with a personal mentor who sets and supervises personal goals. The personal program also includes guest speakers, development events, and a UCAS exhibit.

International Baccalaureate

  • Age: from 16 to 18 years.

This challenging and exciting two-year course is an internationally recognised alternative to A-Levels and provides a Level 3 qualification that is recognised and highly regarded by universities and employers around the world.

Students study six subjects: three at a higher level (HL) and three at a standard level (SL). HL subjects receive four hours of instruction per week, while SL subjects are taught for 2.5 hours per week. Subjects are selected from six groups along with the core tok (theory of knowledge), advanced essay and CAS (creativity, activity and service) programme.

Teens will be assessed through written and practical exams, projects, group work, presentations, and analysis. This course serves as an ideal preparation for university studies and provides skills relevant to most professions. In 2021, students enrolled at prestigious universities such as Exeter, Lancaster and Plymouth to study medicine, childcare and biomedicine.

Distance learning courses

  • Age: from 18 years.

Courses funded by the European Social Fund (ESF) can give a trial version of a new thematic area or a soft (re-introduction) to formal learning through an accredited unit with full qualifications.

The aim of this module is to enable the learner to understand and use inclusive approaches to teaching and learning to meet needs. The module includes ways to create a learning environment, plan, conduct and evaluate inclusive teaching and learning.

Activities Bridgwater and Taunton College

Team BTC provides talented students with the opportunity to gain access to professional, high-quality sports coaches along with education at an excellent educational institution.

Bridgwater & Taunton College is proud to work closely with Bridgwater United Football Club to provide its talented football players with additional opportunities to develop their skills.

BTC offers services for men's and women's football, rugby, netball, basketball, trampoline jumping and golf. Students are selected to participate in the Team BTC Sports Performance program through a series of challenges that are conducted throughout the year and at the beginning of each academic year.

The BTC Active team offers a wide range of free regular active activities throughout the week.
