Description of The Brattleboro Union High School (BUHS)

In the south-east of Vermont, in 1950, Brattleboro Union High School (BUHS) was founded, a popular public school providing high quality educational services. Today, about 900 children are enrolled here (pupils of grades 9-12), and there is also a secondary school (grades 7-8).

The training classes (and the groups of students and the audience) are formed small, the ratio between students and teachers is 1:14 here - this allows teachers to more closely treat each child, practice a personal, individual approach, carefully track personal achievements and achievements. Approximately half of the faculty members are holders of a scientific degree (minimum master's degree), many of them additionally work with the remote program Virtual High School, they work at the Windham Regional Career Center. Each student has a personal curator-adviser, who meets once a week and discusses academic and administrative matters.

The school offers a wide range of training courses and programs - from fundamental general directions to modern disciplines (such as graphic design, advanced biology or television advertising technology). There are also 17 courses at the Honors level, in-depth and advanced study programs for the most curious and gifted children - educational credits (credit units) received in the course of their study can be counted upon admission to the educational institutions of Vermont and New Hampshire. The school has a large number of sports teams and teams, work studios of creativity and various crafts: you can do your favorite thing and learn a new type of employment, showing your talents and abilities. Education in the high school sets its main task to prepare students for independent life in the modern international community: to teach children to communicate with representatives of different cultures and nationalities, to respect others' opinions and points of view, to cultivate tolerance and understanding. It is these qualities that are the basis for a full-fledged social dialogue throughout the world, serve as a backbone for world cooperation and interaction. Graduates of high school become independent and confident in their abilities, demonstrate maturity of judgments, are ready to take responsibility for their words and deeds.

The school works according to the plan of the Nacel Open Door F-1 Public School Program: its essence is to educate students from all over the world in American public schools. The peculiarity of the Nacel program is not only in attracting foreign students, but also in full-fledged, comprehensive, continuous support of foreign boarders. Many of them for the first time left abroad independently and for a long time, and the curators of the program are ready to do their best to stay in the country was for them as comfortable as possible. For more than 10 years, the program has been successfully working and confirming its quality by hundreds of students who successfully completed the senior-level program in the US - today more than 500 people study in this system, many of whom choose the course again. Such useful and necessary services are provided free of charge:

  • The support of the local coordinator and the assistance of the regional director for each student and his family (their sphere of responsibility includes the host families, comfortable conditions for study and living, the solution of emerging administrative and domestic issues)
  • Social staff, highly trained and highly qualified, always ready to help students
  • 24-hour telephone helpline
  • Travel coordinator (responsible for tracking flights, changes in timetable Travel, organization of transfer and meetings / wires).

Most public schools in the USA strongly encourage student exchange and take part in it with pleasure: it allows to diversify the campus's cultural environment, the ethnic composition of students, to make learning more comfortable and effective. In order to study at an American school, foreigners must demonstrate not only high academic indicators, but also interest and involvement in extracurricular life, participate in events, studios and clubs, support social activity and social projects.

  • 15 to 18 years
  • Has no higher education received at home
  • He has a sufficient level of English and wants Improve it
  • Prefers education in the United States according to the state education program

The standard package of documents includes data on the incoming, his physical and moral health, information about academic, creative and sports activities. Most often you need to provide:

  • List of vaccinations and medical records
  • Introductory essay - "Why do I want to study at your school?"
  • All available certificates, awards, certificates, thank you letters demonstrating success in the academic, sports and creative fields.

Contrary to popular belief, applicants do not necessarily have to be unconditionally the best in their previous Class: as practice shows, many students with average progress quickly progress and become better (in points this is expressed in an increase from the C level to the level of BA).

Depending on the school, the dates of admission may vary - we recommend always to clarify this matter in advance; The application can be made after the end of the specified period, but it will be considered only if there are vacant seats. Also be prepared for the fact that the selected institution can provide additional entrance examinations and examinations in the main disciplines.

Consider the fact that American schools do not guarantee enrollment and transfer of early education loans received, as well as obtaining a diploma - this will entirely depend on the zeal and academic success of each individual student. Some courses and subjects can be repeated - this is due to the difference in the curricula of the US and other countries.

The curriculum is selective; therefore, to enter high school, the student (especially the foreigner) needs to demonstrate not only a high level of academic training, but also skills of etiquette, good behavior, the ability to organize their time and work effectively independently and in Team, perseverance and mindfulness. Employees of the school take full responsibility for the safety and health of all students, providing them with a comfortable atmosphere for classes.
